the second one from a disgusting angle. These are the fun ones, when you put it all on the line. Our guys have steeped up and showed these are our type of games and now we are looking for our second cup this year."
On if the opponent in MLS Cup matters:
"I don't think we have really concerned ourselves with teams from the other division. We knew if we could win our division, even though it looked bleak when San Jose put it to us 2-0 in San Jose, we knew coming home we would be a tough team to beat and we tend to get the results here. I think we dominated them from the start, coming out with the same attitude as we did against San Jose. Collectively it was a fantastic performance from front to back."
KANSAS CITY WIZARDS DEFENDER JIMMY CONRAD
On shutting down Carlos Ruiz:
"We know when he gets frustrated, he losses his edge a little bit. He is dangerous and he is going to get his chances, he had one or two when he was in a good spot, but other than that I think we did a good job on him. As a whole on defense we just try to make it as difficult as possible, and if you are going to beat us, it is going to have to be a pretty good goal."
KANSAS CITY WIZARDS FORWARD DAVY ARNAUD
On his two goals after not scoring since Aug. 21:
"I would be lying to you if I said I didn't think about it. As a forward, you are expected to score goals. But we have been doing that as a team and everyone have been contributing to scoring goals, so that takes a little pressure off. Josh (Wolff) and I have had success all year running off each other and getting our chances that way. Sometimes it doesn't work, but when it works it really gives you the chance to score goals."
LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON
On the game:
"We played against a very good team tonight. They were very well organized defensively and got out very quickly and shut down Carlos quite effectively. The speed of (Davy) Arnaud and (Josh) Wolff constantly caused us problems and I thought they did a very good job of isolating themselves.
"Congratulations to Kansas City, but I am also very proud of my guys. They fought hard and did not give up and we attempted to execute our game plan, but we were up against an outstanding Kansas City team tonight."
On the substitutions:,br> "I thought Andy (Herzog) would give us some good combination play and he did. We were looking for someone to combine in behind the defense, but I thought K.C. did a wonderful job of closing down the central channel of the field. Every change that we made, they had an answer for ... in the end, we did get in behind but they did a good job of reacting to every action that we made. We wanted to make sure we had the best attacking players on the field and that's who was on the field at the end."
On the season:
"Anything less than an MLS Cup championship would be disappointing. This week, we will begin to evaluate everything. The players will have a few days off and then we will begin working on next year."
LOS ANGELES GALAXY DEFENDER CHRIS ALBRIGHT
On the game:
"You could say we had a certain amount of the play if you want, but in the end, they were the better team and they deserved it."
On playing the match in Kansas City:
"We can't score on the road and we give up too many goals. It doesn't matter if it is in this building, New York, D.C., or Columbus; we suck. It doesn't matter if it was here or at Old Trafford, we got our butt handed to us."
LOS ANGELES GALAXY GOALKEEPER KEVIN HARTMAN
On the game:
"It's frustrating to play the entire season and to come up with that result, it's unfortunate. Kansas City kind of shrunk the field on us a little bit and didn't give us the type of space that we really like to play with. They pressured us up top and they forced us to send long balls in and they have a bunch of big boys in the back like Jimmy Conrad that headed a lot of balls away. One goal shouldn't kill us, it shouldn't end our season -- we should be a better team than that. We need to psychologically overcome that and get back in the game but we were not able to do so."
On the Galaxy's run in the playoffs:
"As a defense, I think we gave up an average of one goal per game for the entire playoffs. Unfortunately, we did not score a goal per game, so the numbers just didn't work for us."
Looking ahead to next season:
"A lot of these players will not be together next year. It's the reality of the sport. This is a good group of guys. We have the expansion draft coming up and that becomes first and foremost on everybody's mind -- whether or not they will be playing in Los Angeles next year. Coach (Steve) Sampson will be putting together a different team,; this was Sigi's (Schmid) team and Steve didn't have the option to change it. We will see how we start the preseason -- I'm sure it will be a different group of guys."
LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD CARLOS RUIZ
On the match:
"It was a game that we lost poorly, because we had a lack of concentration. In games like this, you cannot give anything away and tonight we did. They took full advantage of the opportunities we gave them."
On his emotions after the match:
"This (missing out on playing a final at home) is something that is very frustrating. We wanted to play a final in Los Angeles in front of our fans. I know that it was a game that we gave it our all but we did not have the concentration to pull it out in the end."
On the team's lack of success on the road:
"This is a complicated issue. I think we need to concentrate more and play better football when we are on the road. We played well for the first half hour and then we lost our concentration, I can't explain it completely."
