REAL SALT LAKE PORTUGAL UPDATE:
RSL has compiled a 5-1-2 record during its inaugural preseason training and wraps up its two-week trip to Monte Gordo, Portugal with one final game against Recreativa Huelva, who currently sit No. 2 in the Spanish Second Division, on Tuesday, March 8, in Isla Canella, Spain. RSL will return to the United States on Wednesday, March 9 and players will be off until it resuming the final stage of preseason in Southern California at the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif. on Monday, March 14.
RSL/adidas JERSEY LAUNCH:
Everyone is invited when RSL and adidas will unveil Real Salt Lake's official 2005 jersey on Saturday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Town Lift Plaza in downtown Park City, UT, located at 825 Main Street just north of Heber Ave. Be the first to see the new Real Salt Lake jersey, the same ones the players will be wearing on the field during the club's inaugural season. MATHIS & POPE WITH U.S. NATIONAL TEAM:
RSL MF/FW Clint Mathis and DF Eddie Pope are with the U.S. National Team at the Home Depot Center in Carson Calif. preparing for final round CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying matches. The U.S. National Team is slated to face Colombia on Wednesday, March 9 in Fullerton, Calif., at 8:30 p.m. MT at Titan Stadium in an exhibition game. The U.S. is 2-8-2 all-time vs. Colombia and the biggest game of the series was a 2-1 win for the U.S. in the Rose Bowl during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The U.S. National Team will then face Honduras in its second exhibition game on Mar. 19 in Albuquerque, N.M. The U.S. moves on to face Mexico in its second CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier on March 27 in Mexico City. Before returning to the team for its inaugural game against the MetroStars, Mathis and Pope are expected to suit up for the U.S. National Team once more to face the Guatemalan National Team on March 30 in Birmingham, Ala.
UYSA DISTRICT 4 & 2 MAJOR COMPETITIVE YOUTH CLUBS ON BOARD:
On Thursday, the Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA) District 4 purchased RSL's largest single-season ticket block with 165 season tickets to be distributed amongst its 3,000 players and 300 coaches. Additionally, two youth soccer clubs made the move last week and purchased season tickets for their respective clubs. Blitzz FC purchased 40 season tickets and Murray Max purchased 20 season passes.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN CUP ANNOUNCED:
More than 500 Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids soccer fans voted to determine the name of the new annual competition between the two regional rivals. Voters going to RealRapidsCup.com were presented with competition name choices after the fan-based Committee of 10 (C10) narrowed down supporter suggestions for the competition title. The overwhelming favorite and winner, tallying twice as many votes as the nearest rival, is Rocky Mountain Cup.
Real Salt Lake season ticket packages for the inaugural 2005 season at Rice-Eccles Stadium are now on sale. The RSL 2005 season ticket package features 21 games, including all 16 MLS regular season games, four special bonus games and the highly-anticipated U.S.-Costa Rica World Cup Qualifier on June 4. Real Salt Lake's season ticket pricing consists of a Youth (15 and younger) and an Adult in four price levels. Prices for the 2005 season ticket packages are $200 adult ($180 youth) for the North Goal, $300 adult ($240 youth) for the Corner Flag, $400 ($320 youth) for East Sideline and $500 ($400 youth) for VIP seats.
