Kansas City Hosts MetroStars in Mid-Week Showdown at Arrowhead
The Kansas City Wizards will host the MetroStars at Arrowhead Stadium on
Wednesday, May 25th. The match will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. CT. Kansas City
(2-2-3) and the MetroStars (2-2-3), both tied with nine points in the
Eastern Conference, meet for the second of four meetings this season. The
two sides tied 2-2 at Giants Stadium on April 16th.
The MetroStars enter Wednesday's match coming off a 2-2 tie at home to the
New England Revolution. The Metros took a one-goal lead into the final
minutes of the game before Revolution forward Taylor Twellman tied the game
in the 89th minute to keep the Revs unbeaten through the first eight games
of 2005.
Wednesday's match at Arrowhead will be just the third road game of the year for the Metros, who played five of their first seven games at home. Ironically, the Metros only two wins came in their only two road games - a 3-1 win at Colorado April 30th and 3-0 win at Chicago May 14th.
Kansas City will look to quickly rebound from their disappointing 3-2 loss at D.C. United this past Saturday. After allowing the first goal in a game for the first time in 2005, the Wizards were unable to overcome the early deficit despite rookie Scott Sealy's late goal in the 88th minute.
Kansas City returns home for two games at Arrowhead this week where they are unbeaten in three home games this season (1-0-2), winning their home opener 3-2 against Colorado and tying D.C. United 0-0 on April 30th and FC Dallas 3-3 on May 7th.
The Wizards enter the mid-week meeting leading the League in goals per game with 16 goals in 7 games played (2.29). Kansas City has scored more than one goal in six of their seven games, the only game without multi-goals was a scoreless tie against D.C. on April 30.
Papa John's "Magic Minutes" Returns!
On Wednesday, May 25th, the Wizards will welcome back a popular fan
promotion as the Papa John's Magic Minutes returns for all Wizards home
games during the 2005 season. If the Wizards score a goal during a
predetermined three-minute span in the second half, all fans in attendance
will receive a free, small one topping pizza compliments of Papa John's.
Fans will have one week to redeem their winning ticket at any Kansas City
area Papa John's location if the Wizards score during the "Magic Minutes".
Johnsonville & Oroweat Present $1 Hot Dogs for All Wednesday Wizards Home Games
The Wizards have partnered with Johnsonville and Oroweat to present $1 Hot
Dog Nights for all Wednesday Wizards home games during the 2005 season.
During each Wednesday night home game, Wizards fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs
throughout the game. Hot Dogs will be available at all concession stands
throughout Arrowhead Stadium.
The Wizards first $1 Hot Dog Night will be this Wednesday, May 25th when the Wizards host the MetroStars. The other Wednesday night games scheduled in 2005 are Wednesday, June 29th against the New England Revolution and Wednesday, July 20th against D.C. United.
Special Ticket Package Available for Memorial Weekend Game and Fireworks Spectacular
The Wizards are offering a special Memorial Weekend ticket package for their
match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, May 28th. Fans can
purchase two sideline reserve tickets and two replica Josh Wolff jersey
t-shirts for just $25, a savings of $8 per ticket.
The special ticket package is only available online through Ticketmaster at
www.ticketmaster.com
and can only be purchased
in multiples of two tickets. Following the game, there will be a special
Memorial Weekend Fireworks Spectacular that fill the skies above Arrowhead.
Wolff Joins Zavagnin in U.S. National Team Camp
U.S. Men's National Team manager Bruce Arena has added Wizards forward Josh
Wolff to the USA's roster in preparation for the team's upcoming match
against England in Chicago on Saturday, May 28th. Wolff joins Wizards
teammate Kerry Zavagnin as late additions to the roster. Both players will
miss Wednesday's Wizards game against the MetroStars as well Saturday's
match against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Wolff, who has 29 career caps and seven goals with the U.S., has
already scored four goals and four assists in seven games for the Kansas City Wizards in 2005. He has one appearance for the U.S. in 2005, appearing as a second half sub in the USA's last match (a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Guatemala on March 30 in Birmingham, Ala.). The addition of Wolff brings the USA's roster to 20 in advance of the England match.
U.S. vs. England kicks off at 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 28 live on ESPN and Telemundo from Soldier Field. Fans can also follow along live online with ussoccer.com's MatchTracker, presented by Philips Electronics.
Another Member of the Wizards Named to U.S. National "Team"
In addition to Wizards forward Josh Wolff and midfielder Kerry
Zavagnin being called into the U.S. National Team, another member of the
Wizards organization has also been invited to be a part of the U.S. team in
Saturday's friendly match against England. Wizards Public Address announcer
Bobby Day has been asked by U.S. Soccer to serve as the PA announcer at
Soldier Field on May 28th when the U.S. takes on England.
Day has served as the Wizards PA announcer at Arrowhead Stadium since 2000
and has not missed a home game in the six seasons he has been with the
Wizards. Due to his National Team duty, Day will miss his first Wizards home
game on Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes.
