The San Jose Earthquakes came from behind twice at The Cotton Bowl to earn a hard-fought 2-2 tie with Western Conference leader FC Dallas. Despite playing the final 55 minutes of the game a man down following the ejection of Danny Califf, the Quakes responded in the Texas heat and held on for a 2-2 tie with Dallas after Ricardo Clark evened the match in the 59th minute on a wondrous goal. The Quakes extended their unbeaten streak to six straight games with the tie. FC Dallas got on the board in just the fourth minute, getting out to a 1-0 lead on an Arturo Alvarez goal. Ronnie O'Brien started the play by dribbling into the Quakes penalty area on the left side before passing it back outside the box to an open Bobby Rhine. Rhine settled the ball before looping a fine cross through the penalty area that an open on-rushing Alvarez was able to volley in the goal. San Jose responded quickly, however, drawing even at 1-1 on an excellent Brian Mullan goal. Mullan received the ball on the right side near midfield and headed up field, beating Dallas defender Chris Gbandi twice before sending a pass into Alejandro Moreno. Moreno one-timed a ball up to a streaking Mullan, who found himself in behind the FC Dallas defense. Dallas goalkeeper Scott Garlick rushed out to stop Mullan, but the Quakes midfielder was able to maneuver around the sliding Garlick and then fire the ball into the open net. In the 20th minute the Quakes suffered a blow to their defense when Eddie Robinson was forced to leave the game with a strained right hamstring, and in the 35th minute the Quakes lost another defender, when Danny Califf received his second yellow card and was ejected for a hard tackle on Roberto Mina, leaving San Jose to play the rest of the game shorthanded with 10 men. Gbandi gave FC Dallas a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute. Gbandi worked a give-and-go at the edge of the left penalty area with Alvarez. Gbandi got the ball back, and moved into the penalty area and then fired a low shot to the far corner past an outstretched Onstad for the 2-1 advantage. Once again, the Quakes responded immediately, tying the game at 2-2 in the 59th minute. Gray ran onto a long ball in the right side of the Dallas penalty area, and brought it down near the top of the 18-yard box. Gray slipped a pass to Ricardo Clark directly in the middle of the field. Clark spun away from his defender and unleashed a beautiful; high shot that soared over Garlick and into the net to even the match at 2-2.

The San Jose Earthquakes saw their four-game MLS unbeaten streak come to a dramatic close as Tony Sanneh scored a goal in second-half stoppage time to give Columbus a 1-0 victory over the Quakes at Spartan Stadium. Playing without U.S. National Team players Brian Ching and Landon Donovan and Canadian National Team members Dwayne De Rosario and Pat Onstad, the short-handed Quakes controlled the game and out-shot the Crew 16-7, but could not put one in the net before Sanneh's 91st minute heroics gave Columbus the win. The Quakes controlled the ball right from the start, with Richard Mulrooney lofting a ball from midfield in the 14th minute over the Crew back line where Ian Russell ran onto it and attempted to pop the ball over Columbus goalkeeper Jon Busch, but the ball went wide of the goal. A minute later, the Quakes had their best chance to take the lead when Brian Mullan stole the ball on the left side and passed it to Ramiro Corrales. Corrales crossed the ball to Chris Brown in front of the goal, but his shot from about six yards away hit the crossbar. Sanneh gave Columbus the shocking win in stoppage time when Simon Elliott curled a free kick from the left side toward the penalty spot. Sanneh ran onto the ball and was able to jump and volley a shot past Jon Conway for the 1-0 win.
Misc. Notes
Quakes Make it Six Unbeaten
San Jose has pulled into a second place tie in the Western Conference with the Los Angeles Galaxy as they have gone on a six-game unbeaten streak. San Jose, 3-0-3 in the past six games, has not lost since a 1-0 loss to the Kansas City Wizards on May 28. This streak ties the Quakes for the second longest unbeaten streak in team history. It has been accomplished four times, the last time from from Sept. 25, 2004 - April 9, 2005. The longest streak in team history is 12 games, set in 2001 from April 28 - July 4.
Quakes Stingy At Spartan
The Earthquakes' opponents have not scored at Spartan Stadium since April 23, 2005 when Kansas City's Chris Klein found the net in the 34th minute of the Wizards' 3-2 loss to the Quakes. The visitors' scoreless streak at Spartan now stands at a club-record 506 minutes. The previous record was 396 minutes, which was set from July 24 - Sept. 8 of 2004. The Quakes have earned shutouts in their last five straight matches at home, setting a new club record. The Quakes previous best shutout streak at Spartan Stadium was four games, set from September 26, 1999 to April 22, 2000.
Players of the Month
San Jose Earthquakes defenders Danny Califf and Eddie Robinson have been selected as Maggiano's Co-Players of the Month for the month of June. Recently acquired Kelly Gray earned the team's Goal of the Month for his June 18 strike against Real Salt Lake. For the month of June, Califf and Robinson were paired in central defense for San Jose as the team posted a 3-0-2 record and allowed just one goal in five games. After shutting out D.C. United in a 0-0 tie on June 4, the Califf and Robinson-led defense allowed the only goal of the month on June 12 against Chivas USA. Following that game, the Quakes earned three consecutive shutouts from June 18 - June 29 to earn wins over RSL (3-0), the Los Angeles Galaxy (3-0) and the Colorado Rapids (1-0). Prior to Saturday's match against FC Dallas, the Quakes had allowed just two goals since Califf and Robinson were paired in central defense and the team posted a 4-1-2 record in those matches. Gray won the Earthquakes Goal of the Month for his right-footed blast in the 13th minute against Real Salt Lake on June 18. In his first game as a Quake after being acquired from the Chicago Fire, the former Leigh High School standout played a give-and-go with Ronald Cerritos to free himself at the edge of the 18-yard box. He then eluded one defender before firing a low blast to the far corner for his first goal in an Earthquakes uniform.
Unstoppable Onstad
After posting three straight shutouts and four in five matches, Quakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad allowed two goals on Saturday against FC Dallas. He stretched his shutout streak to 298 minutes (seventh best in club history) in that game before Arturo Alvarez's goal ended the streak. However, Onstad still finds himself third in the league with a 1.06 goals against average and tied for the league lead with seven shutouts. He is also ranked first in save percentage, saving 62 out of 79 shots on goal for a 78.5 percentage. Since April 23, Onstad has not allowed an opponent to score at Spartan Stadium for five games and 506 straight minutes at home.
Mullan and Clark Net First Goals
The Quakes scored two goals at Dallas on Saturday night with the first goals of the season by both Ricardo Clark and Brian Mullan. Mullan got San Jose on the board in the sixth minute to tie the game and Clark scored in the 59th minute. Clark's last goal came on October 17, 2004 for the MetroStars against D.C. United. For Mullan it was his first goal since August 7, 2004 against D.C. United. For the Quakes in his career, Mullan has scored eight out of his ten goals at Spartan Stadium. His only two road goals for San Jose have been at Dallas. His other road goal came on June 14, 2003 in a 2-1 win at Dallas.
Halfway Point Turnaround
San Jose has reached the halfway point of their 32-game schedule. The Quakes have a 6-3-7 record for 25 points and a second place standing in the Western Conference. Last season at the midway point of their 30-game schedule, San Jose had a 4-6-5 record for 17 points and was last in the Western Conference standings.
Gray and Moreno Get First Assists
Kelly Gray and Alejandro Moreno posted assists on the Quakes two goals on Saturday. For each, it was the first assist of the season and first of his Earthquakes career.
Califf To Serve Suspension
Earthquakes defender Danny Califf received a red card after he earned his second yellow card on July 2 against FC Dallas in the 35th minute. Califf will be forced to miss the next Quakes game on July 9 against the Columbus Crew to serve his red card suspension. This is only the defender's second ejection in his six-year MLS career.
Davis Joins U.S. National Team Camp For First Time
San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Brad Davis will not be with the club for most of July, as Davis will be a member of the United States National Team's 23-man roster for the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Davis, 23, joined the U.S. team in Portland, Oregon for a week of training beginning on June 26 following the Quakes Saturday game against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The current assist leader in MLS with eight, Davis is making his first appearance in a camp with the full U.S. National Team. The Gold Cup, the main competition of the CONCACAF nations, includes teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean, as well as up to three entrants from other world football confederations. The tournament runs from July 6 - 24 all around the United States. The United States is in Group B along with Canada, Cuba and Costa Rica. Davis and the U.S. National Team open play on Thursday, July 7 against Cuba at Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash. Two days later in Seattle on Saturday, July 9, the United States faces Canada, before wrapping up group play against Costa Rica on Tuesday, July 12 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
De Rosario To Play for Canada
Earthquakes midfielder Dwayne De Rosario will be with the Canadian National Team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. De Rosario left the Quakes after scoring the winning goal June 29 against the Colorado Rapids. He started and played 78 minutes for Canada on July 2 in a friendly match against Honduras in Vancouver, BC. Canada is in Group B along with the United States, Cuba, and Costa Rica. De Rosario and the Canadian National Team will play in the first round on Thursday, July 7 against Costa Rica at 5:30 p.m. PT in Seattle, against the United States on Saturday, July 9 at 11:30 a.m. PT, and will face Cuba on Tuesday, July 12 at 6:00 p.m. PT. The MLS 2004 Goal of the Year winner has scored seven goals for Canada in his 30 senior team caps since 1998.
Cerritos Closes In On Club Records
Forward Ronald Cerritos registered his 52nd assist of his nine-year MLS career when he notched an assist on June 25 against the Galaxy for his fifth of the season. The Quakes forward has registered 43 assists in his San Jose career, just one behind Quakes all-time leader Richard Mulrooney. Currently the club's all-time goal scoring leader, Cerritos is looking to become the teams' all-time leader in both goals and assists. He has moved past John Doyle to have the second-most all-time appearances (134), starts (130) and minutes (11,389) for the San Jose club. Cerritos' next goal will be his 70th in his career, seventh best in MLS history.
Tough Road Ahead
After playing four out of five matches at home in June, the Quakes started a four-game road trip on Saturday with a 2-2 tie against Western Conference leader FC Dallas. The Quakes now face the Columbus Crew (July 9), D.C. United (July 15) and the Colorado Rapids (July 20), before returning to Spartan Stadium for a July 23 game against the MetroStars.
Robinson, Califf Form Tough Duo
Eddie Robinson left Saturday's match against FC Dallas in the 20th minute and Danny Califf received his second yellow card in the 35th minute, leaving the Quakes without their top central defense combo. Since Califf was inserted into the Quakes starting lineup alongside Robinson in central defense on May 25 against Colorado, the Quakes had allowed just two goals in seven straight games, posting five shutouts in that span and a 4-1-2 record. FC Dallas netted two goals against San Jose on Saturday.

Ronald Cerritos has scored 13 goals and registered nine assists in July. Brad Davis' highest scoring month is July, with four goals and two assists.

Earthquakes rookie Danny O'Rourke was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio...Columbus forward/midfielder Devin Barclay, a Nike Project-40 signee, was a member of the San Jose team during the 2002 season... On the Road vs. Crew
San Jose has struggled on the road against Columbus in its history. The Quakes have posted a 1-11 regular season record in Columbus in team history and the only victory came on July 20, 1996 at Ohio Stadium, a 4-3 win. Since then, San Jose has lost 11 consecutive regular season games in Columbus, including an 0-8-0 record at Crew Stadium. However, San Jose does have a playoff win vs. Columbus at Crew Stadium, defeating Columbus 3-1 on Sept. 22, 2001 in the quarterfinals of the MLS Cup Playoffs. Lately, the Quakes have played close games at Crew Stadium only to come up short in the end. San Jose fell 1-0 in both 2003 and 2004 at Columbus with goals late in the second half.

Making The First One Count
The Quakes pulled out a late goal for a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on June 29, continuing their incredible run over the past 62 games when scoring first. Dating back to the 2000 season, the Earthquakes own a 52-3-7 record in their last 62 matches when they score the first goal of the game. In 2005, San Jose remains undefeated at 5-0-3 when scoring first. The Earthquakes were 25-2-2 in 2001 and 2002 when finding the back of the net first. The Quakes only gave up leads two times in 2002, losing 2-1 to Los Angeles on July 4 and falling 2-1 to Kansas City on July 27. The team continued that trend in 2003, possessing an 11-0-1 mark in the regular season when they scored the first goal. In 2004, the Quakes went 8-1-1 when scoring first, the top mark in MLS. The Quakes gave up their lead and lost to Los Angeles on July 4, 2004 for the first time since July 27, 2002 against Kansas City. The Quakes are also impressive in the playoffs when scoring first, posting a 6-0-0 record.
