RUIZ NAMED HONDA MLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Major League Soccer announced on Monday that FC Dallas forward Carlos Ruiz was named the Honda MLS Player of the Week. In the team's lone match last week on Saturday night at DC United, Ruiz scored both goals during a 2-0 victory. His first goal came in the 49th minute and was a goal for the ages. FC Dallas forward Roberto Mina scooped a centering pass from the right to Ruiz on the opposite side. With his back to the goal, Ruiz lifted and hit a full bike from 12 yards out past DC United goalkeeper Nick Rimando. Just six minutes later, Ruiz raced onto a pass by Mina and nearly chipped the ball past Rimando, but was fouled in the box. Ruiz converted on the penalty kick for his league leading seventh goal and his 13th career multi-goal game in his three-plus seasons in MLS. Ruiz's first goal should lock up the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week, receiving 80% of the voting as of Tuesday afternoon and could very well be the league's Goal of the Year.

The Player of the Week honor was the second straight for the team as midfielder Ronnie O'Brien was honored with the award just a week before.
