WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United forward Santino Quaranta has been called into the U.S. Men's National Team camp by head coach Bruce Arena, in preparation for the team's upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The U.S. team, who clinched a berth in Germany with a 2-0 win over Mexico, will face Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Costa Rica on Saturday, October 8. The team will then wrap up the qualifying round in Foxboro, Mass. with a game versus Panama on Wednesday, October 12.
"Santino continues to work hard and deserves the opportunity to represent the US in the final World Cup qualifying matches," said United Technical Director, Dave Kasper.
Quaranta has made six appearances for the U.S. Men in 2005, primarily on the right side of midfield. He saw time in four games during the team's Gold Cup championship run and has seen the field twice in World Cup qualifiers, including the last 10 minutes of the World Cup-clinching 2-0 win over Mexico. In all, he has been on the field for 248 minutes and has one assist.
For United in 2005, Quartanta has been one of the team's most dangerous players. He has five goals and five assists in 18 total games (13 starts). Three of his five goals have been game-winners, tied for most on the team.
