United's Jaime Moreno wins Sierra Mist Goal of the Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Major League Soccer announced D.C. United's Jaime Moreno as the winner of the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week, for his impressive, second-half strike against Colorado last Saturday (Sept. 13). It is the second such honor for Moreno in 2005 - the 31-year old also won during Week 12 for his goal against the New England Revolution.

Saturday's goal came after Santino Quaranta carried the ball 40-yards through the midfield to the top of the goal box. The forward drew three defenders, before playing a quick back heel to a trailing Dema Kovalenko, who then played his second touch to Moreno, just inside the right corner of the goal box. Moreno collected the ball with his right foot, cut back a defender to his left and then slid a bending ball past goalkeeper Byron Foss and two backtracking Colorado defenders into the far left corner of the goal's side netting.

In 2005, Moreno has notched 13 goals - his highest output, since scoring 16 in 1998 - and six assists. The native of Bolivia is the second all-time leading scorer in MLS history, with 91 goals. He sits just nine goals behind Real Salt Lake's Jason Kreis.

United is in action tonight in Santiago, Chile versus Universidad Catolica in the second leg of the Copa Nissan Sudamericana. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports Español at 8 p.m. ET. The Black-and-Red return to League action on October 1, when the team travels to Giants Stadium to face the MetroStars.
