WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United is proud to recognize and celebrate the pride of Hispanic culture at their fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Night, presented by Budweiser, on Saturday, August 14 when the club welcomes the New England Revolution to RFK Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will feature several of Major League Soccer's Latin American stars such as United's Jaime Moreno (Bolivia) and the Revolution's Uruguayan playmaker, Jose Cancela.
"The local Hispanic community continues to play an integral part in the success of our business," said Stephen Zack, senior vice president of D.C. United. "In turn, our organization strives to positively impact our great Latino fan base. Through events like this, we honor and celebrate this great culture and the soccer players that they so passionately support."
Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night is being celebrated at all MLS venues around the country throughout the 2004 season. The program is a fully integrated national MLS marketing initiative targeted toward the growing Hispanic community.
As part of the festivities, Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night will feature live music, traditional Latin cuisine, interactive games and a ceremony at halftime honoring the 2003 Latin American Soccer League Champions from the metropolitan area. Each team will be presented with an official MLS match ball and a certificate of recognition.
The pre-game fiesta will commence at 4 p.m. ET in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium and will remain open until kick-off. The festivities are open to the general public and will feature live music by Latin American musical sensation Oro Solido and local artists Javier Julian and Willon Vale.
Supporting sponsors of Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night include Kohl's, Cox Communications, Domino's, Delta Air Lines and Western Union. Media sponsors include Univision Washington, Mega and El Tiempo Latino.
As part of Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night, a special ticket offer will be made available exclusively for this match. For $28, fans can receive a spectator game ticket as well as a copy of the new autobiography by former Los Angeles Galaxy star Mauricio Cienfuegos titled Fútbol de Una Sola Cara. The first 500 fans to purchase this offer will have the opportunity to have their book signed personally by Cienfuegos prior to the August 14 game.
Through United's charitable arm, United for D.C., and its Kicks for Kids program, children from local non-profit organizations that serve Hispanic youth and other, primarily under-privileged, children will be able to enjoy the event and the celebration of Hispanic culture free-of-charge. Youth from groups such as the Calvary Bi-lingual Multicultural Center, Linkages and Learning, the Children's National Medical Center and the Capital Area Food Bank will attend the game and also receive meal vouchers and pom poms, thanks to the support of the Kicks for Kids 2004 benefactors, including the Colburn Family Foundation, Cox Communications, GEICO and Hyundai.
