United to face FC Dallas in U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals

WASHINGTON - Following a 3-1 victory over the USL's Richmond Kickers last night, D.C. United has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. United will face FC Dallas - who defeated the Columbus Crew 3-1 - at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md. on Wednesday, August 24. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

"The Maryland SoccerPlex has been a great venue for us in the past, and we're looking forward to hosting another important game there on August 24," said United Vice President Stephen Zack.

Tickets for the game are $20, however D.C. United plan holders and groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $16. All tickets are general admission. Ticket orders can be placed by calling D.C. United at 202-587-5000. Tickets will go on sale through TicketMaster beginning next week.

United and Dallas have met twice in Open Cup play. In 1996, when United went on to win the tournament, Jaime Moreno notched two goals in D.C.'s 2-0 win in the semifinal round. In 1997, Dallas exacted their revenge, defeating the Black-and-Red in the Open Cup final 5-3 on penalties, following a 0-0 finish.

In 2005, United and Dallas have met once, as two Carlos Ruiz goals were the difference in Dallas' 2-0 victory on May 28. Dallas have gotten the best of D.C. in their nine year history, as the Black-and-Red have only managed a 9-14-2 record versus their Western Conference rivals. In the 25 games between the two teams, each has scored 47 goals. United and Dallas will meet one other time during the MLS season, as the two teams face off in Dallas' newly opened Pizza Hut Park on September 10.
