Schulte, seven others join Crew

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew General Manager Mark McCullers and Head Coach Greg Andrulis announced today that The Crew has acquired defender Mark Schulte, and signed seven additional players to developmental contracts.


Schulte has been with Columbus for all of preseason after playing the 2004 season for IBV of the Icelandic First Division. Prior to playing in Iceland, the Brecksville, Ohio, native spent four years with the Minnesota Thunder in the United Soccer Leagues First Division.


The Crew also signed seven players to developmental contracts, including six draftees from this year. They are North Carolina midfielder Marcus Storey (2005 SuperDraft 2nd round, 20th overall), Maryland midfielder Domenic Mediate (2005 SuperDraft 2nd round, 23rd overall), Michigan forward Knox Cameron (2005 SuperDraft 4th round, 44th overall), St. John's goalkeeper Bill Gaudette (2005 Supplemental draft 1st round, 9th overall), former Central Florida midfielder Eric Vasquez (2005 Supplemental draft 2nd round, 20th overall), St. John's defender Ryan Kelly (2005 Supplemental draft 3rd round, 32nd overall) and 2004 fourth round SuperDraft pick Jamal Sutton.


With the recent signings, The Crew has one developmental slot remaining.


TRANSACTION: Acquired defender Mark Schulte and signed the following seven players to developmental contracts: forward Knox Cameron, goalkeeper Bill Gaudette, defender Ryan Kelly, midfielder Domenic Mediate, midfielder Marcus Storey, midfielder Jamal Sutton and midfielder Eric Vasquez.
