NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL
On the game:
"We thought it would be an open game. The field is pretty dry, so that makes
it hard to pass the ball well. First half, we were second best to be honest.
Second half was a bit scrappy on both sides. Sometimes you need to win with
working hard and we did that."
On substitute Khano Smith:
"Marshall (Leonard) obviously was injured. Khano's got tons of pace. I'm disappointed he never got more of the ball to be honest. Because certainly
if I were playing fullback, I wouldn't want somebody with the pace that he
has running at me. So we are disappointed with that. So Marshall was
injured, and Khano was the obvious choice. I just wish we would have given
him the ball a bit more."
On what New England had to change for the second half:
"At halftime, we said we were second best at everything. I couldn't think of
anything that we were better at than them. The second half, we just talked
it out. We had a couple of opportunities for ourselves (in the second half).
We would all love to win playing silky soccer, but sometimes you need to tough it out and fight it out. It's good to know we can do both."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD TAYLOR TWELLMAN
On the win:
"Obviously it was a hard-fought game. D.C. is a very good team. We just came
out and did the job."
On his game-winning goal in the 59th minute:
"Pat (Noonan) deserved an assist in the first half, to be honest with you. It
hit the post and I should have scored there. (On his goal) Pat did all the
work, I just did my job."
On the Revs not allowing a goal at Gillette Stadium this season:
"It's a team effort. The biggest thing as to why we are successful is there
are no egos. Defense starts with me and Pat up front, continues all the way
down. But you've got to give our defense credit. Defense wins ball games."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER AVERY JOHN
On the Revs' fifth shutout of the season:
"We just hope to continue. We are on a good run right now. It wasn't our best
game, but the most important thing is the defense. The team itself, from the
forward straight back to the goal, we haven't let a goal in. And we are
trying to keep that going for as long as possible."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER MICHAEL PARKHURST
On the win:
"Yeah, we are doing well. Today we had to defend a little more than we'd like,
but we were able to hold firm in the back there and get the 'W.'"
On the Revs being unscored upon at Gillette Stadium:
"We feel this is our home and no one is going to come in here and get an easy
run at us. We'll give teams some possession every now and then, but once they get close to our goal, we're going to shut them down to the best of our
ability."
D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH PETER NOWAK
On the game:
"We're supposed to be better in the final third. There were moments when we
were in each other's way, when we doubled ourselves in one line. We didn't
stretch the field. We just didn't have the best day, offensively."
On the second half:
"We stretched the second half pretty good, but we made one mistake and they
punished us."
On United's defense:
"When we lose the game, then you think about what you need to do better. There was one play that we didn't make it in time and we need to clean it
up. We can't complain, but we have enough offensive talent to put the ball
in the net and we have to do it. We need to make the other team wonder what
they're going to do."
D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER CLYDE SIMMS
On the game:
"I thought we did well. We came here to get three points and I thought we
came out very well. The first 20-25 minutes, we were in their end the entire
time. We just need to continue to work on our finishing. It will come."
On United's defense:
"I thought we played well defensively. The one chance they had they
capitalize on."

On missed chances:
"It's been 'shoulda, woulda, coulda' for a while now. I'm trying to replay in
my mind if we were off as far as scoring or if they just had an unbelievable
defensive game today. We had good looks. It just seemed like there was a defender's foot there, or a goalkeeper's hand there, or we were just off target."
On the game:
"I was happy with the effort, but that doesn't mean anything if you don't
win."
On New England's goal:
"Nicky (Rimando) made a great save, but the ball was just sitting around in
the goalmouth. They're opportunists and they capitalized on their
opportunity."

On the game:
"The way we played, to walk away with a loss, is of course disappointing.
That's how it goes. Unlucky. These guys worked pretty hard today. I thought,
defensively, we were good. Offensively, we weren't clicking, but those are
the breaks."
On New England:
"Give them credit. They get their chance and they finish it. That's what they
are about."
