SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake reserves (0-2-1, 1 pt.) lost its second game of the season in a 3-1 loss against the Los Angeles Galaxy reserves(3-0-0, 9 pts.) at Trailside Park in Park City, Utah. RSL's lone goal was scored by DF Michael Lookingland, while FW Joseph Ngwenya netted two goals and FW Herculez Gomez added the third goal for the Galaxy.
RSL GK Clint Baumstark was tested early in the first half with a shot by Ngwenya in the 12th minute and just three minutes later LA countered with shot by DF Michael Umana in the 15th minute. RSL first opportunity was by FW Jamie Watson who forced the LA GK Steve Cronin to stop RSL from getting on the scoreboard first in the 20th, which lead to the team's first corner kick. MF Leighton O'Brien served a ball into the box connecting with MF Dipsy Selolwane on a header that floated high over the goal.
Real again threatened Cronin with two shots midway through the first half by Botswanan national team foward. Selolwane forced a save in the 22nd minute and then two minutes later, he sent a shot sailing high over the crossbar. The teams battled throughout the end of the first half until a late penalty kick gave LA the 1-0 lead in the 45th minute after Ngwenya was taken down by DF Sergio Flores inside the box.
RSL responded to the 1-0 deficit eight minutes into the second half with a goal by Lookingland who chested in a corner kick from O'Brien in the 53rd minute to level the score 1-1. The corner was the product of aggressive play by Watson who back-heeled a pass to DF Seth Trembly creating a one-on-one opportunity for Trembly against Cronin. Trembly attempted to chip the ball over Cronin, but the LA 'keeper pocked the ball wide.
The last thirty minutes of the second half belonged to LA with the team moving out to a 2-1 lead after Gomez scored the team's second goal off a corner kick in the 63rd minute. Ngwenya sealed the win for the Galaxy with his second goal on the game in the 68th minute with the game ending 3-1.
