BURN TO HOST ADU, DC UNITED SATURDAY AT 7:30 P.M.
Teen-age phenom Freddy Adu and DC United will make their second and final stop of the 2004 season in Dallas this Saturday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl. United (5-6-6) are currently in second place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points while the Burn (5-6-5) are tied for fourth in the West with 20 points.
BURN/UNITED SERIES NOTES
The Burn leads the all-time season series vs. United, 12-8-2, after a 1-1 draw on June 26 at the Cotton Bowl...in that match in June, Burn forward Jason Kreis became the league's all-time leading scorer with a strike in the 37th minute...the Burn has lost just once in the last nine matches vs. United, posting a 6-1-2 record over that span...Dallas has won six of the last seven home matches vs. United, outscoring them 14-7...Kreis has enjoyed the most success against DC, scoring 11 goals and four assists for 26 points in 22 career matches.
BURN TO FACE COLORADO IN OPEN CUP MATCH ON TUESDAY
The Burn will face the Colorado Rapids in the fourth round of the 2004 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on Tuesday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl. The winner of Tuesday's match will face the winner of the Kansas City Wizards/Atlanta Silverbacks (A-League) match in the quarterfinals on August 4. Should the Burn advance on Tuesday, they would travel to either Kansas City or Atlanta for that match.
BURN WELCOMING PLAYERS BACK FROM INJURY LIST
After suffering through a rash of injuries the last six weeks, several players are returning or close to returning to the playing field. Forward Eddie Johnson, who was leading the team in scoring when he suffered an ankle injury on June 29, returned to the lineup last weekend and played the final 27 minutes. Forward Bobby Rhine, who suffered a right knee MCL sprain on May 22, could see action this weekend after missing the last nine matches. Additionally, goalkeeper Scott Garlick has resumed training with the team after missing the last seven matches with a high ankle sprain suffered on June 10.
SUCCESS ON ROAD NOT TRANSLATING AT HOME
While the Burn has enjoyed a great deal of success on the road this season, the team has struggled uncharacteristically at home. In eight road games, the Burn has compiled a 3-3-2 record for a .500 winning percentage, which is tied for second for best road winning percentage in the league. However, their 2-3-3 home record is tied for last in the league in home winning percentage at .438. The Burn will look to reverse that trend with a favorable schedule as three of their next four matches are at home.
