• Crew coach Greg Andrulis made two changes to the team that lost 3-0 to the New England Revolution the previous weekend. Ryan Kelly came into the back three in place of Mark Schulte, while Frankie Hejduk made his first 2005 start, with Danny Szetela moving into a central role while Manny Lagos was dropped.

• "It was a good three points at home and a good shutout. Jon Busch was absolutely outstanding. He had a couple of big saves. We need to do a little better finishing the chances we have but those will come," Andrulis said. " ... As we learned last year, everybody's so competitive and in our division it's tough top to bottom. And you have to take care of business at home somehow and we found a way tonight."

• Goalkeeper Jon Busch was named the MLS Player of the Week in balloting by the Professional Soccer Reporters Association. He was credited with six saves in the Crew's 1-0 victory against D.C. United, including a pair of top-quality second-half saves that preserved the victory.
• "On the save off of Jamie Moreno's flick, I don't think I have seen a better one in a long time. It was phenomenal," said Andrulis. "Clearly, we needed [Busch] to get to come up big tonight. He is playing with a lot of confidence."
• Midfielder Duncan Oughton will be lost for the remainder of the season after it was decided he will undergo surgery to repair his right knee. The New Zealand international will have cartilage transplant surgery which could force him out of action for the next 12-18 months. He first sustained injury to the knee during the MLS Cup Playoffs last October, and had an initial operation on the knee in November.
• "He's the type of guy who gives 100 percent every day whether it's a practice or a game," captain Robin Fraser said of Oughton to The Columbus Dispatch. "He sets the tone intensity-wise for us. He'll be greatly missed."
• Panamanian under-20 international Luis Gallardo joined the club and made his first appearance in Black-and-Gold, playing for a largely reserve team in the Fourth Annual Connor Senn Memorial Match against The Ohio State University on Wednesday night. The match ended in a scoreless draw, abandoned after 45 minutes because of a lightning storm.
