Rapids 2, Crew 1 -- quote sheet

COLORADO RAPIDS 2, COLUMBUS CREW 1

COLUMBUS CREW HEAD COACH GREG ANDRULIS

On subbing Edson Buddle in at the start of the second half:
"We knew Edson was ready. We knew we couldn't get 90 minutes out of him. The plan was to get him in the second half whether it was at the half or a few more minutes with David (Testo) that would have been fine. We were down 2-0, throw him out there, see if he can get something happening. If he ran out of gas then we still had Erick Scott or Michael Ritch."

On subbing Duncan Oughton in at the start of the second half:
"Duncan is a bit more available on the attack than Nelson (Akwari). Nelson is a good passer but Duncan will get after it and he did and we wanted to get more service from wide. But they were really clogging things in the middle. Both subs were offensive in nature. We were down 2-0, we had to push it a little bit."

On whether or not there was a foul on the first Colorado goal:
"You've got to be stronger. That guy (Jean-Philippe Peguero), he's a good, big, strong guy. He's killing for goals and you have to admire that, so whether or not it was a foul it wasn't called and it's a goal at the end of the day."

On where the possible breakdowns were today:
"I thought the speed of play in the first half was too slow. We were out of sync, our crosses were not very good and when they were good the runs were not quite right. And we had a couple good chances. We need to put those away. They took care of their chances and we didn't take care of ours. We went down 2-0 at halftime.

"If I'm pleased with anything, the guys came back and fought hard in the second half, but we need to do that for 90 minutes and play with a little more urgency. It's 11 vs. 11, there is no sympathy for anyone in this league."

COLUMBUS CREW FORWARD EDSON BUDDLE

On scoring in front of his father and grandmother:
"I am sure it made his trip complete. My grandmother was here too, I am surprised I didn't see her run down on the field."

On Crew defender Chad Marshall and his near-miss at the end of the game:
"He's going to score some goals for us. He's just been unlucky."

On scoring and playing after being injured for much of the season:
"It helps my confidence. The team has been very supportive and has helped me get through this. Tonight they got me involved in the game."

On the loss:
"Colorado came out to play today. We dug ourselves a hole. We need to put this game behind us and move on and get ready for Chicago on Saturday."

COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH TIM HANKINSON

On the win:
"We needed this win badly. We created some good chances and so did they (Columbus). The difference was putting the ball away, and we did."

On Jean-Philippe Peguero's play:
"He is a very quick player that has a lot of 'street' in him. It is very difficult for opponents to read his moves and be able to stop him. He has scored important goals for us since he has been here, as well as with the Haitian national team."

COLORADO RAPIDS GOALKEEPER JOE CANNON

On defender Chris Henderson's last minute clearence:
"It was one of those balls that you just follow with your eyes because you know you have already been beaten, but just as you are loosing all hope, it gets cleared from the line. Henderson had a chance to lift the team to a 3-0 lead five minutes before, but that save made up for everything tonight."
