After a 2-1 loss Sunday night to the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Earthquakes face two difficult tests this week as they take on the Dallas Burn on Wednesday, July 7 at Spartan Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT and the MetroStars on Saturday, July 10 at 1:00 p.m. PT at Giants Stadium. The match against the Burn will be broadcast live on the radio on 1590 KLIV (English) and 1370 AM KZSF (Spanish), while Saturday's match against the MetroStars will be televised live on ESPN2.

A first half Dwayne De Rosario goal was not enough to keep the San Jose Earthquakes from suffering a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy Sunday night at The Home Depot Center. Despite De Rosario's goal in the 41st minute that gave the Quakes 1-0 lead, San Jose lost for the first time since May 29 as Carlos Ruiz scored two goals for the first place Galaxy. The Earthquakes took the lead in the 41st minute on a De Rosario goal. The Quakes cleared a Galaxy corner kick and caught Los Angeles in transition, with Arturo Alvarez and Landon Donovan quickly bringing the ball up the middle of the field. Alvarez found Donovan streaking into the Galaxy half of the field, and Donovan carried the ball into the penalty area, where he cut back and passed it to Brian Ching in the middle of the box. Ching dished off to De Rosario on the right side, and his point blank blast was saved by Hartman. The rebound deflected back out to De Rosario, who then worked the ball back around to Donovan, who sent a wicked shot toward goal from nearly 18 yards out. The ball ricocheted off a diving Hartman and landed at the feet of Ching in the middle of the area. Ching then hit De Rosario with a pass on the left post, and he slipped the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead. The Quakes advantage would only last four minutes, however, as Los Angeles battled back with a goal in the 45th minute. Chris Albright headed down a Galaxy corner kick, sending the ball bouncing to the left post, where Carlos Ruiz was able to get a foot on it and push it past a diving Onstad to tie the match at 1-1. The Galaxy took a 2-1 lead in the second half on another goal by Ruiz in the 55th minute. Ned Grabavoy received a pass on the left side and dribbled past the San Jose defense into the left side of the penalty area. Grabavoy hit an open Ruiz with a pass near the 18-yard box, and his low shot beat Onstad to the right corner.

The San Jose Earthquakes used a strong performance from goalkeeper Pat Onstad to hold on to a two-goal first half lead and defeat the Dallas Burn 2-1 at the Cotton Bowl. First half goals by Landon Donovan and Brian Ching gave the Quakes a 2-0 lead and San Jose was able to withstand a late Dallas goal and desperate late-game pressure to win their seventh straight game over the Burn. The Earthquakes took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute on a Donovan goal, as he gathered a rebound and fired a shot into an open Dallas net for his second goal of the year. The Quakes moved the ball into the center of the Dallas penalty area where Brian Ching was able to slide and knock the loose ball to an open Donovan at the top of the box. With two Burn defenders on him, Donovan dribbled toward the net before passing it off to Brian Mullan on the right. Mullan blasted the ball past Burn goalkeeper Scott Garlick and off the goal post. The ball bounced directly to an open Donovan about eight yards in front of the net, allowing him to slam it home for the 1-0 advantage. The Quakes upped their lead to 2-0 just moments before halftime when Mullan worked a fine give-and-go with Richard Mulrooney at the right corner of the penalty box. Mullan received the pass back from Mulrooney and dashed for the end line, sending a low cross into the middle of the box where Brian Ching was able to slide and direct the ball into the goal to give the Quakes a 2-0 halftime lead.

The San Jose Earthquakes remained unbeaten at home in 2004, using second half goals from Brian Ching and Brian Mullan to pull away from the MetroStars and claim a 3-1 victory at Spartan Stadium. Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Conway earned his first MLS win of 2004, as the Quakes responded with two incredible late goals after the MetroStars tied the match in the 59th minute. The Earthquakes took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Jeff Agoos buried a free kick from about 24 yards out. After Ching was fouled near the left corner of the MetroStars penalty area, Agoos sent a swerving blast around the wall and over New York goalkeeper Zach Wells for the 1-0 lead. The Metros tied the game at 1-1 in the 59th minute when Conway blocked a free kick shot from Mark Lisi. The ball deflected off Agoos onto the crossbar, bouncing directly to Jeff Parke who headed the loose ball into the net. The Quakes regained the lead at 2-1 in the 79th minute on a brilliant individual effort by Ching. Ching trapped down a beautiful long-pass over the Metros defense by Mulrooney, and then dribbled into the box alone with only Wells to beat. Ching maneuvered around a sliding Wells, but slipped as a sprinting Ricardo Clark attempted to steal the ball from him. Ching shielded the ball from Clark, forcing him to the ground and then spun around to fire a shot into the open net. Mullan added an exclamation point to the Quakes victory in the 89th minute when his incredible goal gave the Quakes a 3-1 advantage. Mullan received a pass at the left corner of the Metros penalty area, and proceeded to dribble through and around five MetroStars defenders before sending a finely placed shot into the lower left corner from 18-yards out for the final margin.

In July
The Earthquakes are looking to improve on their play in the month of July. Since 1996, the Quakes have a 16-23-4 MLS regular season record in the month. Last season, San Jose went 2-1-2 during July.
Quakes On The Fourth of July
The Earthquakes now own an all-time record of 1-3-2 in games played on the Fourth of July Holiday after their loss to the Galaxy on Sunday night.
Quakes Score First, But Lose
Against the Galaxy on Sunday, the Earthquakes scored first but came away with a loss. For the first time since July 27, 2002 against Kansas City, the Earthquakes suffered a loss after scoring the first goal of the match. Since 2000, the Earthquakes are 42-3-4 when scoring the first goal of the game.
Still Unbeaten At Home

Quakes To Host Hawaiian Night on July 7
The Earthquakes will host Hawaiian Night at Spartan Stadium on July 7 when the Quakes take on the Dallas Burn at 7:30 p.m. PT. The game will feature special ticket and food discounts, a pre-game luau, and a trip for two to Hawaii, courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines and Aston Hotels and Resorts Hawaii. The pre-game Hawaiian Luau Buffet, catered by the Hukilau restaurant, is limited to the first 250 participants and will begin at 5:00 p.m. on game day. Four lucky fans will be selected to participate in a halftime contest at Spartan Stadium with the winner of the contest receiving a trip to Honolulu. The winner will receive roundtrip airfare on Hawaiian Airlines and a three-night stay at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. The Earthquakes will also distribute leis to the first 7,500 fans at the game and Brian Ching, the first Hawaiian player in MLS history, will don a lei on the field for pre-game introductions. Halftime will feature a Polynesian-themed band. The match on July 7 also features special values on tickets and food. All sodas and hot dogs will be one dollar and special six-dollar tickets will be available for the South End Zone. Dallas Domination
The Earthquakes have recently dominated the season series against the Dallas Burn. Following their 2-1 win over the Burn at the Cotton Bowl on May 15, the Quakes are currently on a seven-game winning streak vs. Dallas and have won nine of the last ten matches overall between the teams.
