Quakes 1, Rapids 0 -- quote sheet

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 1, COLORADO RAPIDS 0

COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH FERNANDO CLAVIJO

On the game:
"Nothing happened, nothing. From the beginning we laid down a ball with no energy and (this was) just one of those games that you want to put behind you and concentrate on the next one. I'm just very dissatisfied the way we played the whole way through."

On the opportunity to get a win at home:
"I think that every time we have an opportunity to really excel and make things happen maybe it's too much pressure. Some guys can perform under pressure and that is one thing we need to discover. I think (Jean Philippe) Peguero was the only one really putting on the pressure, everyone else was half-awake."

On the play of Mike Petke:
"I thought Petke coming out was doing well and this is his first game and at the altitude and with the changes."

On the effect of the recent trades:
"One thing I have to look at as a common denominator for everything that has been happening, between trades and everything else, we do not have a team that is mentally strong and we have suffered some of the consequences."

COLORADO RAPIDS GOALKEEPER JOE CANNON

On the goal:
"I just felt I kind of got beat and I watched the replay and it went through someone else's legs too. A couple of times this year we have been unlucky with balls going through legs but it just seems like our defenders at times overstretch thinking they have to block a shot and take away the whole goal but really they just need to take away the far post."

On the Rapids' overall play:
"For some reason this team lacks inspiration, lacks emotion and it lacks passion when we play and it does not matter what we do. As soccer players if we do not bring our heart to the games this is going to be the result more times than none."

COLORADO RAPIDS DEFENDER MIKE PETKE

On his first game with the Rapids:
"I have only been here for two days and it is tough to get used to people in two days. There have been two other changes in the lineup since last game besides me. San Jose came here to play and for whatever reason we did not, especially in the second half."

On what happened on the goal:
"He (Alejandro Moreno) got me going one way as he has done it before and his shot skipped off my foot. A dangerous player like him, you can almos know that is going to be a goal."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:
"I am very happy for the guys. It was just a gutsy performance by the team, and from back to front, we played great defensively. Our goal was to get three points tonight and we showed that at the end of the game. Everyone was battling and making the plays that had to be made. Just a good performance overall."

On creating chances:
"We created some great chances at the beginning of the second half and Joe (Cannon) pulled off some pretty good saves. Overall, I think that we possessed the ball better in the second half and that created problems for them. Our passing and our movement off the ball was very good, so I was happy with that."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD ALEJANDRO MORENO

On his goal:
"Once the ball was played outside, I had Mike Petke one-on-one and he dove outside a little bit and I cut inside. I took a good look at the far post and I tried to bend it in there and luckily it went in."

On scoring on the road:
"On the road, it is tough to get chances, so it takes a lot of concentration to make sure that you take advantage of those chances. For some reason I have had good success on the road. I have had some good opportunities at home, but the goalkeepers have made good saves on me and I haven't been able to finish so far."

On the road win:
"It's big for us because this keeps Colorado behind us and puts some distance between Chivas and us as well. It was an important three points for us tonight."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER RICARDO CLARK

On possession:
"A strong point for us tonight was our possession, so we did not give them many opportunities because they had to defend. We also created some good chances out of our possession, so overall it was a positive result for us."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD

On three shutouts in four games:
"We have played well defensively and we have rode a little bit of luck. But, tonight I think that we really limited their chances very well, so I was proud of the guys for their effort. If we keep playing like we did tonight, we are going to be very successful."
