Q&A with Eddie Johnson

Eddie Johnson celebrated a big moment with the U.S. team in October.

FCdallas.net had the opportunity to sit down with Eddie Johnson to ask him about his thoughts of last season, his most memorable soccer moment and a goal he wants to achieve for his life.

FCdallas.net: What were your thoughts on last season for you personally?

Eddie Johnson: "My goal for last season was to be a guy the team could count on and be relied on to score goals. When I spoke with Colin (Clarke) at the beginning of last season, he told me that I could probably go out and score 15 goals. After he said that, I set a goal to be one of the top goal scorers in the league and I accomplished that. Being 20 years old, it is tough when the team relies on you, but that's a role that I cherish and felt like I've handled very well. Another goal of mine was to get a call up to the National Team and I accomplished that. I got my chance there and had a great opportunity where thing just went my way. It almost felt like I had an angel who grabbed me and put me in the right spots to score. I am so blessed and will continue to work hard to get even better."

FCdallas.net: What were your thoughts on last season for the team?

EJ: "I thought we were one of the best teams in the league. We proved to everyone in the league that we could win games. What we did not prove to the league was that we could be a consistent unit. We will get better and be more consistent because we are still a young team and I'm looking forward to our future together. I think Colin knows what it takes to turn things around and I am confident in him and the way the team is heading."

FCdallas.net: What is the most memorable soccer moment in your life to date?

EJ: "I would have to say it's the hat trick with the national team in my second match with them. That was an unbelievable night for me. With me being 20 years old and playing with guys that I used to watch on television, that was amazing for me. It's so great to play with those guys because they are men, but they have spirits like little kids. They have fun out there and I love playing with them."

FCdallas.net: Who is your best friend in the MLS, not including FC Dallas teammates?

EJ: "Edson Buddle of Columbus is probably my best friend in the league. People always say we look alike and I think that is so funny because he really is like a brother to me. We entered the draft together at the same time and Edson is a guy that has a similar background to me. When we talk, we have a lot in common and are dealing with the same stuff as young players."

FCdallas.net: What is one goal for your life that you would like to achieve?

EJ: "That's a good question, but I would have to say right now it's playing in the next World Cup. You never know what's going to happen, but I would love that opportunity. I am very competitive and if I work hard, at the end of the day I know I will get something out of it. My plan is to continue to work hard and work towards that goal that I want so badly."
