Pizza Hut Park progress report – July 5

Pizza Hut Park will make its debut on August 6, 2005 when FC Dallas hosts the MetroStars. The 21,193-seat soccer specific stadium and the 17 regulation-sized, tournament-grade soccer fields adjacent to the stadium will be the first of its kind in the United States and is now 32 days away from its historic opening.

This Pizza Hut Park Progress Report is meant to update the public on the status of the facility leading up to Opening Day. The report will be sent out twice a week with facts and figures regarding Pizza Hut Park and how the construction on the 117-acre complex is heading towards completion in several key categories. Each report will have a few important categories and their present status.

Sand Based Fields

• There are a total of seven sand based fields, which includes the stadium field, the FC Dallas training field and five general use fields.
• Each field is being constructed to meet the standards set by the USGA for sand based field construction.
• Each field will have subsurface drainage constructed with ADS perforated pipe which feeds into a perimeter drain loop that leads to the retention ponds. The water in the retention ponds will be used to irrigate the fields.
• The soil profile consists of 6" of lightweight aggregate which will be placed on the hard pan grade followed by 12" of sand that has been blended with peat moss. All materials used meet or exceed USGA standards for subsurface soil drainage and retention rates. The soil profile will drain at a rate of 12" - 16" per hour.
• All fields will be sodded with a hybrid Bermuda grass variety called Tifway 419.
• All fields will be fully irrigated and lighted.
• All fields will be manicured with reel type mowers daily from ½ to ¾ inch in height.
