Noonan voted Player of the Week

NEW YORK - New England Revolution forward Pat Noonan was selected as the Honda MLS Player of the Week for Week 13 which ended on June 26, 2005. The U.S. International scored twice on Wednesday, June 22 in the Revs 3-1 win at Columbus and then tallied his League-high tying eighth goal of the year on Saturday, helping the Revs defeat the MetroStars 4-2 at home. This is Noonan fourth career Player of the Week honor.

On Wednesday with the Crew leading 1-0, Noonan combined with teammate Clint Dempsey on a give-and-go to even the score in the game's 24th minute. Noonan headed a cross into the path of Dempsey, who carried it into the area to the right of the goal while Noonan continued his run. Demspey sent a low cross through the six-yard box finding an unmarked Noonan for the easy tap in, his sixth goal of the campaign.

Noonan helped the Revs put the game out of reach with his second of the night in the 68th minute. Dempsey was able to redirect Andy Dorman corner kick, finding Noonan alone at the back post. Noonan took a quick touch before slipping it past Crew goalkeeper Bill Gaudette for the goal.

The third-year player continued his scoring spree on Saturday at Gillette Stadium, adding an injury time goal in the Revs win over the MetroStars. Receiving a long ball from defender Avery John, Noonan caught MetroStars keeper Zach Wells off his line and chipped a 35 yards ball over his head for the goal. Noonan is now tied with Colorado Rapids forward Jeff Cunningham as the top goal scorers of the 2005 season with eight goals apiece.

Noonan, who joined the United States national team this week in preparation for the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, was selected ahead of San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad and Revs teammate Clint Dempsey for the weekly award. The Honda Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected every week throughout the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA)
