MetroStars partner with Soccer Coliseum to support New Jersey National Guard

SECAUCUS, N.J. - The MetroStars announced today that they have partnered with the Soccer Coliseum of Teaneck, NJ to stage the fifth annual Coliseum Cup. This year in addition to the tournament, the MetroStars and Soccer Coliseum are coming together to support the Family Assistance Program of the New Jersey National Guard. The indoor youth soccer tournaments will be held in the following age divisions for both boys and girls: U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15.

"We are extremely happy to be partnering with the Soccer Coliseum to support the New Jersey National Guard," said MetroStars Executive Vice President John Guppy. "This is a great way for the MetroStars to both support the youth soccer players of New Jersey, while giving back to the community. We hope that this tradition can continue to grow."

Each team that registers for the tournament is guaranteed three games, with the championship game in each division being played at Giants Stadium on the main field before the MetroStars home opener on April 2. In addition to the games, each team that plays in the tournament will receive complimentary tickets to the MetroStars home opener.

Along with the tournament, the MetroStars and Soccer Colisuem are coming to the aid of the Family Assistance Program of the New Jersey National Guard. Since September 11, 2001, the involvement of the citizen-soldiers of the New Jersey National Guard has reached unprecedented levels. The number of soldiers and airman on active duty in support of the Global War on Terrorism was just under 1,000 at the end of 2003. Currently, this number is over 3,300.

The MetroStars and Soccer Coliseum have partnered with the Family Assistance Program of the New Jersey National Guard to provide the families of these brave men and women with tickets to the MetroStars home opener on April 2, 2005. The MetroStars will donate a ticket to the Family Assistance Program for every youth soccer team that registers for the Soccer Coliseum Cup.
