METROSTARS 3, CHICAGO FIRE 0
CHICAGO FIRE HEAD COACH DAVE SARACHAN
On the match:
"A couple goals we gifted New York [MetroStars]. Hard to explain. We
are not going to point fingers at one or two or three people. It's a
collective effort, win and lose. It's obviously very disappointing
not to put your best foot forward at home against the team that we've
had pretty good success with. That's all I can say. Disappointed."
On the club's recent efforts at home:
"We have great fans, we have great support and we expect to be
aggressive and be the aggressor. And it's inexplicable to me when
you're second to balls and second on tackles at home especially. If I
had the answers to that, I'd be a genius. We talk about it, we have
the mindset of doing it, and we didn't quite measure up tonight."
CHICAGO FIRE MIDFIELDER CHRIS ARMAS
On the team's performance:
"We really didn't create any great chances; we probably had six or
seven shots all game. It's tough playing from behind when they're
sitting back a little, but I think we still need to be able to create
more chances at home. I felt like we got out-competed and there's no
excuse for that. It's really disappointing because the guys are
working hard and you don't get the result at home that you want and
for me, I'm disappointed about that."
METROSTARS HEAD COACH BOB BRADLEY
On the trio of Gaven, Guevara, and Djorkaeff playing together:
"I thought that the movement and the passing from those three was good.
And really, it was part of a really solid team effort. When the team
works as a unit like that, then those guys have a chance to show us
some of the things they can do."
On how Chicago's mistakes effected the game:
"For sure. That gave us a chance to get on top and feel like we can
stay disciplined and finish the game out. Tonight, the breaks went
our way."
The importance of tonight's game:
"The most important thing was to get the team to really play hard for
90 minutes. Last week we had a decent start and we got scored on and
we didn't have a response. The whole week we talked about the need to
stick together and play right to the end. It was a good solid team
effort."
METROSTARS MIDFIELDER EDDIE GAVEN
On working together with Guevara and Djorkaeff:
"Yes, everything went well. We just had a good mindset going into this
game. We need to raise our level after last game. It's great to play
with Amado [Guevara] and Youri [Djorkaeff]. They're probably two of
the best players I've ever played with."
On turning the tables on the Fire:
"My first two years with the team, this has been a team we have
sometimes struggled against. But today, we came out and played really
well and hopefully we can just keep on building for the next game."
METROSTARS DEFENDER JEFF AGOOS
On coming back after his injury:
"It's great to be back and the icing on the cake is getting a win and
getting a shutout. I think it was important to get here and get some
points. But the way we did, the manner in which we did it, it was
very professional tonight."
