Metros preseason notebook

EL LOBO ARRIVES: Reigning MLS Most Valuable Player Amado Guevara arrived in camp on Friday. He had previously been training in his native Honduras.

WOLY'S BACK:
Forward John Wolyniec did not play in the first preseason game versus FC Dallas, but did start in the second contest versus Columbus. Wolyniec is returning from a back injury and has increased his participation in practice over the course of the week. He is expected to be 100 percent by opening day on April 2.

YUGO VLADE:
Yugoslavian import Vlade Glusevic has impressed with his tremendous ability in the air. The 6'4'' forward has been deadly on jump balls and has finished a number of headers in 9-on-9 drills in practice.

KING OF GOALS:
Forward Sergio Galvan Rey lived up to his nickname in Tuesday's afternoon practice. In 9-on-9's, he deposited a number of goals into the back of the net.

GREEN TEAM SHINES:
Rey's teammates Mark Lisi, Eddie Gaven, Joseph Rosen, Sherif Toure, Jeff Agoos, Vlade Glusevic, and Mike Magee drew praise from head coach Bob Bradley during the 9-on-9's.

OFFENSIVE DRILLS:
During Thursday's afternoon session, the Metros' midfielders and forwards were given a chance to showcase their scoring skills from all over the box. Forward Mike Magee, midfielders Eddie Gaven and Michael Bradley stood out, as they uncorked a number of lasers into the back of the net.

GOALTENDERS SHARP:
However, during that same drill on Thursday, the Metros' goalkeeper rotation of Zach Wells, Mike Ueltschey, Eddie Gustafsson, and Patrick Hannigan each made a number of tremendous saves under difficult circumstances.

DAY OFF:
The Metros were given their first day off of training camp on Saturday.

U-20'S ADDED TO PRESEASON SLATE:
On Sunday, the MetroStars will scrimmage the U.S. Under 20 National Team. This will be the fifth scrimmage of their spring training trip.

NOT ONLY SOCCER STARS IN BRADENTON:
The projected first overall pick in this April's NFL Draft, University of Utah quarterback Alex Smith, was spotted on the campus of IMG this week honing his passing skills. He was seen with University of Georgia's standout defensive end David Pollock, who is also expected to be a top draft pick in April's draft.
