MetroNation hosts penny drive May 31

On May 31, the MetroStars will be hosting a doubleheader at Giants Stadium that includes the English national team against the Colombian national team in an international friendly, followed by the MetroStars against the Chicago Fire. MetroNation, like the MetroStars, is taking their opponent head-on during this event by hosting a penny drive benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

MetroNation is a group of some of the most passionate MetroStars' fans. Joining MetroNation for the fundraiser will be over 50 fans from Englandfans, the official supporters club of the England National Team.

Together, MetroNation and Englandfans hope to collect a large sum of money with their penny drive during their tailgate party, MetroGate, in Lot 15 near Gate D in the Giants Stadium parking lot. All proceeds from the penny drives will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

While supporting its home team, MetroNation has been battling leukemia, lymphoma, and other hematological cancers all season.

"As a nonprofit corporation, MetroNation provides a legitimate and proper channel for such outreach programs, like what we are doing for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," said Keli Sorrentino, a MetroNation Charter Citizen and the group's Fundraising Coordinator. "Between us, the MetroStars, and LLS, it is pure synergy!"

LLS is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $360 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.
