Hunt Sports Group President John Wagner announced Wednesday that Mark McCullers has been appointed General Manager of the Columbus Crew. McCullers has effectively operated the organization since July.
"Mark is an extremely effective and proven sports executive," said Wagner. "He is an excellent fit for General Manager of the Columbus Crew. Mark has been an integral part of the organization's success for more than six years and is ready to lead The Crew and Crew Stadium."
McCullers joined the Crew in December 1998 as Crew Stadium General Manager and was a key contributor in the development and construction of America's first soccer-specific stadium -- Crew Stadium, which opened on May 15, 1999.
He was named the Crew's Executive Vice President in October 2000. As Executive VP, McCullers oversaw the Finance and Administration for both entities, for Crew Stadium operations, event marketing and collaborated on sales, marketing and branding initiatives for the Crew. McCullers will now oversee all operations for the Crew, as well as continuing to run all operations for Crew Stadium.
As Crew Stadium GM, McCullers spearheaded such memorable soccer events as the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, four U.S. Men's National Team World Cup Qualifying games, the 2000 MLS All-Star Game, MLS Cup 2001, and the NCAA Division I College Cup Championships in 2001 and 2003.

Prior to joining Hunt Sports Group, McCullers served nine years at the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission, first as Event Manager for RFK Stadium and the D.C. Armory, and then, as Assistant Stadium Manager at RFK. During his career at RFK he helped produce some of the most significant soccer events held in the U.S., including the 1994 World Cup, 1996 Olympic Soccer and MLS Cup 1997. McCullers serves on the Greater Columbus Sports Commission Advisory Board, the Experience Columbus Events and Sponsorship Committee, the Experience Columbus Hospitality Community Alignment Committee, International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) Board of Directors and the IAAM Foundation Board.
McCullers received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky in 1984 and his Master of Science in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University (Fla.) in 1989. He resides in Westerville with his wife Candy and their three children, Corey, Camryn and Carson.
