Man of the Match Q&A: De Rosario

Dwayne De Rosario

After all of the playing and traveling that you did in the weeks leading up to the D.C. United game, how did you feel during the match and what did you think of the Earthquakes' play?

Dwayne De Rosario: "I felt good, I felt okay. I didn't feel too tired during the game. I definitely still wanted the ball and wanted to try and change things. But then, right when I think we started to push forward, we gave up another goal to make it 2-0, and I think the heads went down a little bit. Then we gave up a poor third goal and that was basically it."

How difficult was it for you to travel and play with the Canadian National team, and then come back to play 90 minutes in an MLS match?

DDR: "It is definitely difficult. It is not easy. But I am a professional and I have to do it. This is not the first time that I have done something like this. I just want to play, I want to be involved. I tried to make things happen and I tried to push up as much as possible and create chances for our team, but in the end I think everyone was fatigued. Not just myself, I think everyone. It is hard to play under those conditions, with the wet grass and humidity. It is difficult."

Are you happy to back with the Quakes now after spending a week and half with the Canadian National Team?

DDR: "It feels good to be back here. We just want to get back to our winning ways as quickly as possible and try and start another unbeaten streak. We didn't have our best game against D.C., but I think that we will turn it around against Colorado."

How did you think that Canada performed in the Gold Cup tournament?

DDR: "We did not get the results that we were looking for. We definitely wanted to make it out of the group and play in the quarterfinals so we were disappointed not to accomplish that. In saying that, I was pleased with the way that we kept the ball and how we played the game in our three matches. I think that we have a lot of good players and if we had finished a bit better we would have been into the next round. We are rebuilding right now and the Gold Cup was a great first step for our team."

How did it feel to wear the captain's armband for Canada against the U.S.?

DDR: "It was a big responsibility for me and I welcome that. I am one of the more experienced players on the team now so I have to set a good example for the younger players and try and teach them as much as I can. As an experienced player, I have to make sure that I am teaching the younger players about how to be a professional, especially a professional representing your country. It was definitely an honor to be the captain of my national team."

What do the Quakes need to do to get good results against the Rapids and MetroStars this week?

DDR: "We have to keep doing what we are doing. A lot of players were really fatigued going into the D.C. game and I think that you saw that. We have to get our rest and be ready to go into Colorado on Wednesday and get a good result. At this stage of the season, you just have to grind out results and hopefully we will do that in Colorado and that will set us up for a good game at home against the MetroStars."

Both matches against Colorado have been tight 1-0 affairs with late goals. Is Colorado a difficult team to play against?

DDR: "They are a team that likes to sit back and counterattack, so it is hard to break them down. The key for us is to get a quick goal because that will force them to come out a bit more and then that will open up space for us. Hopefully we can move the ball and find that space so that we can create more opportunities and score some goals. We just need to get that first goal."
