Major League Soccer announces changes to regular season schedule

Major League Soccer on Thursday announced a series of schedule changes made in conjunction with the 2004 Sierra Mist All-Star Game moving to Saturday, July 31. The league's ninth midsummer classic, originally slated for July 24, will now be televised live on ABC Sports at 2 p.m. ET with the site, format and opponents to be unveiled at a later date. All five matches originally listed for July 31 have been rescheduled with another full slate of five MLS games moved to July 24.

Along with the schedule updates made to accommodate the Sierra Mist All-Star Game, nine other changes were announced due to stadium availability and television scheduling conflicts, including five in the Chicago Fire's and two in the Colorado Rapids' home schedules. The national television schedule was also modified as the ESPN2 telecast originally slotted for July 31 was replaced with a July 24 television date. The Aug. 14 and Sept. 4 matchups featured on ESPN2 have also been switched.
