Kreis' milestone goal remains in hunt for Sierra Mist Goal of the Year

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake FW Jason Kreis 100th goal was selected as one of ten goals remaining as a candidate for the 2005 Major League Soccer Sierra Mist Goal of the Year after the first round of voting ended yesterday on the League's official website, www.MLSnet.com. From October 19 to October 25, fans selected the top ten goals from the original list of 40 candidates.

"When I got No. 89 to break Roy Lassiter's record, I said I would be more proud of 100," remembered Kreis, whose 9 goals this season represents the team high. "I wasn't sure why, but now I finally figured out what 100 means to me: it means 10 goals a year over 10 years, and that's a pretty decent career.

"Now I would like to shoot for a 150 goals, meaning five more years of 10 goals a season."</p>

Kreis became the first-ever MLS player to break the 100 career-goal threshold with his century-mark rocket against Kansas City on Aug. 13. In the game's 72nd-minute, the Omaha, Nebraska native collected a header from FW Dante Washington in the top corner of the box and rocked a left-footed half-volley into the upper 90. </p>

"This is probably the most bittersweet moment of my life," said Kreis following the Kansas City game on Aug. 13. "It has to be one of the best goals that I have ever taken in this League. I am proud of this one, but I am extremely disappointed in our result tonight."

Kreis is currently recovering from left knee surgery after having a portion of his meniscus shaved and a new Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) put in, with the surgery performed by U.S. Men's National Team doctor, Bert Mandelbaum, at Santa Monica Orthopedic in Santa Monica, Calif on Sept. 29. He expects to be back in time for the start of 2006 season.</p>
