When the MetroStars needed a win, they called on the King.
Sergio Galvan Rey, the "King of Goals," slid Ante Razov's pass to the right of goalkeeper Scott Garlick to lift the MetroStars to a 3-2 win against FC Dallas on Wednesday night at Giants Stadium.
Galvan Rey, who had two goals in the opening 20 minutes of the game called back for offside, ran in on Garlick and beat him with a low shot for his fifth goal of the year in the 74th minute to cap a MetroStars comeback. It helped the Metros snap a three-game winless streak heading into the All-Star break.
Razov had given the Metros the lead in the seventh minute, but FC Dallas center back Clarence Goodson scored goals on either side of halftime to give the visitors the lead early in the second half.
Four minutes after replacing Michael Bradley, Mike Magee tied the game for the Metros, albeit with a little help from Garlick. The Dallas 'keeper couldn't handle Youri Djorkaeff's corner and Magee was at the back post to knock in the freebie in the 68th minute.
Djorkaeff, who returned to the Metros starting lineup after missing four of the last five games with a strained hamstring, also set up the first goal of the game.
The former French international threaded a pass that freed Razov towards goal and Razov beat Garlick for his sixth goal of the year and 84th of his career, moving into sole possession of fourth place all-time in league history.
Dallas tied the game in the 38th minute on a Metros defensive lapse. Goodson found his way between MetroStars defenders and tapped in Roberto Mina's cross for his first career MLS goal.
The tall defender then doubled his career total less than two minutes into the second half when he followed Bobby Rhine's header off the crossbar by poking the ball past Tony Meola to give Dallas a 2-1 lead.
The Metros nearly added an insurance goal one minute after Galvan Rey's winner, but Razov put the ball off the far post and Eddie Gaven's header was stopped by Garlick, who made a remarkable lunging save.
The MetroStars made a change in their backline as Chris Leitch returned to the starting lineup, replacing Ryan Suarez, who is out for three weeks with a sprained right medial collateral ligament.
But they were forced into another at the break when Jeff Parke left the game with a stomach virus and was replaced by seldom used Seth Stammler, who played seven minutes in four previous matches this year.
The MetroStars and FC Dallas meet again after the All-Star break, Aug. 6 for the opening of Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
