Historic Kreis goal selected as Sierra Mist Goal of the Week winner

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake FW Jason Kreis 100th goal was selected as the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week for Week 19 with 53 percent of the votes after his century-mark rocket against Kansas City from Saturday. In the game's 72nd-minute, the League's All-Time Goal-scoring leader collected a header from FW Dante Washington in the top corner of the box and rocked a left-footed half-volley into the upper 90. CABRERA & SCARLETT CLEARED & READY R-E-A-L DUTY: RSL DF Gustavo Cabrera and DF/MF Robert Scarlett have been cleared by the U.S. Immigration and are both eligible for play on Saturday, August 20 against the San Jose Earthquakes. Cabrera, 25, began his professional soccer career with famed Central American club Comunicaciones in 1995 and has spent 10 seasons with the team, scoring eight goals and adding five assists. The left-sided and central defender has been a member of the Guatemalan National Team since 1999, anchoring the team's defense during the past six years. Scarlett is one of an emerging crop of attacking Jamaican defenders whose speed, skill and ability to carry the ball quickly along the flanks pose problems for opponents. The left-footed defender began his career with Harbour View FC when he was 12 years-old, notching 21 goals and 53 assists in nine seasons. Scarlett spent a brief three-month stint during the 2003 season with Russian giant Spartak Moscow, and was part of that season's UEFA Champions League roster.


O'BRIEN LOANED TO SEATTLE SOUNDERS: RSL today announced that MF Leighton O'Brien, who had appeared in six of the team's 22 games this season, has been permanently loaned to United Soccer Leagues' First Division Seattle Sounders for the remainder of the 2004 season. The 29-year old Washington native was in his final year of a three-year deal with the Sounders before signing with RSL on March 28. In 2002, O'Brien earned A-League MVP and assist honors when he tallied 13 goals and 11 assists in 27 games with the Sounders.


RSL RELEASES SELOLWANE FROM ROSTER: RSL has released FW Dipsy Selolwane, who had appeared in eight of the team's 22 games this season, in order to make room on the team's senior roster for a player yet to be named. Prior to joining RSL on December 30, 2004, the Botswanan international spent three seasons with the Chicago Fire.


KREIS' 100th GOAL CELEBRATION TO KICK OFF PRE-GAME: Real Salt Lake will celebrate forward and captain Jason Kreis, Major League Soccer's first-ever player to break the 100 career-goal threshold, during pre-game ceremonies on Saturday, August 20 in recognition of his recent accomplish. Kreis, a native of Omaha, Neb., spent the first nine years of his MLS career with the Dallas Burn, where he became the League's All-Time Leading Scorer with career goal #89 last year, surpassing the record previously set by Roy Lassiter. Kreis' premier goal-scoring campaign for the Burn was in 1999, when he found the back of the net 18 times en route to capturing the Honda MLS Most Valuable Player Award.


PETER BRIENHOLT TO PERFORM POST-GAME CONCERT: RSL invites fans to join Peter Breinholt in the Carnival Real area for a post-game concert on Saturday, August 20. Admission to the concert is free with admission to the game. Songwriter Peter Breinholt has been delighting audiences with his self-styled acoustic music for more than a decade. He has sold out every major concert hall in his home state of Utah, including Kingsbury Hall, Capitol Theater, Tuacahn, Sundance, the Sandy City Amphitheater, and Thanksgiving Point. His credits also include five albums, a concert DVD, two guitar songbooks, a film score, Pearl Awards, songwriting awards and concerts with several symphony orchestras.


REAL SALT LAKE RESERVES TO FACE THE EARTHQUAKES IN PARK CITY: Real Salt Lake reserves (1-5-1, 4 pts.) will face the San Jose Earthquakes reserve on Sunday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m. MT at Trailside Park in Park City, Utah. RSL picked up its first reserve league win of the season in a 5-2 victory over the Chivas USA reserves (1-6-0, 3 pts.) on July 10 at University Field 1 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.


RSL started aggressively with the first goal coming in the 5th minute by FW Dante Washington. Chivas USA tied the game in the 15th minute with a goal from FW Milton Blanco. Just three minutes later, FW Jordan Cila scored his second goal of the season in the 18th minute to put RSL up a goal. DF Michael Lookingland notched his second goal of the season and RSL's third of the game off an assist from MF Leslie Fitzpatrick in the 29th minute. Washington tallied his fourth goal of the season in the 36th minute ending the first half 4-1.


In the second half, RSL started where they finished the first half. Cila added his second assist of the season as he fed MF Luke Kreamalmeyer who fired home RSL's fifth goal of the game in the 50th minute. MF Mike Muñoz scored the second Chivas USA goal in the 84th minute ending the game 5-2.
