Galaxy 2, Chivas USA 0 -- quote sheet

LOS ANGELES GALAXY 2, CHIVAS USA 0

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON

On the match:
"I thought the match was very even in the first half. Chivas showed more energy and more life than I expected them to. I thought that tactically they did very well against us in the first and some adjustments we made at the half helped us significantly. Our back line in front of Kevin Hartman played solid defense."

"I am very proud of the work rate of Paulo Nagamura, who continues to show the class of player that he is and of Pablo Chinchilla's first goal in MLS; we knew that he could provide us with those types of goals on dead balls ... I am very happy with way we played tactically in the second half. We played with a lot of composure in the second half, to win this game is very special for us because of its significance in this building."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY DEFENDER PABLO CHINCHILLA

On his first career MLS goal:
"Free kicks are something we work on all the time in practice. We know that we can be dangerous on them. This time, I snuck into the attack when they didn't expect me to and I beat Douglas (Sequiera) to the ball."

On the impact of the goal:
"That changed the game. It allowed us to relax more and get into a rhythm. I think we needed that first goal to establish our mark on the match."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY MIDFIELDER PETER VAGENAS

On the match:
"Coming off a disappointing performance against Columbus, I think we played a lot better. We faced a team that is searching for answers right now and we squeezed their throat and took another step forward for us."

On establishing dominance at The Home Depot Center:
"I think everyone realizes now that The Home Depot Center is the home of the Galaxy. Chivas are the new kids on the block and it's tough for them because result-wise, they haven't been getting what they'd like."

On his career-best fourth goal of the season:
"All year, they (the coaches) have been harping on me to get forward. It did it again this time and I finished the play pretty easily."

CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH THOMAS RONGEN

On the game:
"We had two completely different halves. It was pretty clear that we came out with a lot of energy and emotion that was expected in the second Clásico. In the first half both teams had scoring chances, the game was very even, but we couldn't sustain that in the second half."

On the mistakes the team makes:
"We don't get outplayed by other teams; it's not like we're getting absolutely hammered and we lost fair and square. It's the team that makes the least mistakes that wins and Galaxy played mistake-free soccer tonight."

CHIVAS USA MIDFIELDER FRANCISCO MENDOZA

On his play:
"Personally, I felt very well. I am confident that I did the things I had to do, but it didn't help because we lost the game, it's a shame that we could not score despite the opportunities we had."

About the different positions he played in the game:
"I just followed the coaches' instructions and at one point I switched positions with Ramon Ramirez, but no matter what position I play I always do my best, unfortunately tonight we lost the game."
