FireWorks for Kids hosts golf marathon

CHICAGO - The FireWorks for Kids Foundation - the charitable arm of the Chicago Fire - has announced that it will hold the first-ever FireWorks for Kids Foundation Golf Marathon Challenge for Charity on Oct. 4 at the Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill. A maximum of 36 participants will be expected to finish one hundred holes of golf from sunrise to sunset to raise money for the FWFK Foundation during the pledge-based fundraising event. The shotgun start at Ruffled Feathers is set for 7 a.m. CT.

While the FireWorks for Kids Foundation has helped sponsor the Frank Klopas Celebrity Pro-Am tournament since 2001, the Challenge for Charity will mark the Foundation's first golf marathon. In the weeks leading up to the event, golfers will be asked to post a $100 refundable entry fee, which will be returned to the participant upon the commitment of a minimum of $2,500 in pledges. Green fees, a golf cart, golf balls, tees, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks will all be provided to the golfers throughout the day, and golfers that turn in a commitment card with their $100 refundable fee will receive a FWFK golf vest or pullover. Pledges above and beyond $2,500 will make participants eligible for prizes, which have yet to be determined.

"The FireWorks For Kids Foundation is very pleased to produce this first-time event," said FireWorks for Kids Foundation CEO Donald Ortale. "The Golf Marathon Challenge for Charity will assist us in providing further funding to our past grant programs while also establishing funding for new partnerships. We encourage individuals who enjoy the game of golf and who enjoy a challenge to come out and golf for their favorite charity."

All proceeds in the FWFK Foundation Golf Marathon Challenge for Charity will go towards the Foundation, which will donate the funds in the form of grants and contributions to organizations whose programs provide recreational and educational programs for disadvantaged children throughout Chicagoland. Participants in the FWFK Foundation Golf Marathon Challenge for Charity will be given the opportunity to indicate a favorite charity that they would like the board of the FireWorks For Kids Foundation to consider when awarding grants and contributions for funding in the future.
