Fire 1, MetroStars 0 -- quote sheet

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2005 - CHICAGO FIRE 1, METROSTARS 0

METROSTARS HEAD COACH BOB BRADLEY

On the game:
"Tough night. It was frustrating to make a bad mistake and get down and have two defenders come off at halftime and use two subs at that point. Then have a penalty at the beginning of the second half to tie it up and then we can't convert. The effort after that to keep going and try to push the game was pretty good. The plays that needed to get pulled off technically around the backs weren't good enough tonight."

On acquiring two points in three home games:
"There have been positive things. It's disappointing and frustrating to have only two points but it's a long season. Some things in these three games have made everybody feel that this is going to be a good team."

On Jeff Agoos' previous calf injuries:
"Jeff has been great. He hasn't missed a training day up until now. It's frustrating for him to have to come out at halftime. Lets hope that it's not anything that will keep him out for too long."

METROSTARS MIDFIELDER AMADO GUEVARA

On acquiring two points in three home games:
"It's very frustrating. Today we lost three points."

On his penalty kick:
"I hit the post. The goalie didn't stop the ball. It was the post. I was very sad not only because I missed the penalty kick, but because I let my team down. We should have tied."

METROSTARS GOALKEEPER ZACH WELLS

On losing two defenders after halftime:
"It only took about 10 minutes to readjust. (Tim) Ward and (Tim) Regan came in and did real well. Ward just took a couple passes to get him going forward. You don't want to use up two subs at halftime. You want to save them because maybe as the game goes along you would want to use them more diligently later on. We're not getting the breaks right now."

On acquiring two points in three home games:
"That is far below what we set as our goal for the first three games. We need to shift the mentality. I don't know where it comes from. I don't know how we're going to change the tempo or the mentality of our team. We are being more hesitant right now."

CHICAGO FIRE HEAD COACH DAVE SARACHAN

On the game:
"We played similarly to the last game at home. There were really no changes, the idea was to come into New York and really try to make the game and test them and be around them and we had chances to go forward and want to take advantage of it. I thought we had a really good start to the game and we said we wanted to get in on the game at halftime even or ahead and we got the goal and so overall a pretty good performance."

CHICAGO FIRE GOALKEEPER ZACH THORNTON

On the game:
"It was nice to get a win on the road in a conference game, that's the most important thing."

On the Fire defense:
"Those guys did a good job, a really good job. They were tenacious, smart, they held the line."

CHICAGO FIRE FORWARD NATE JAQUA

On his goal:
"I was trying to press him (Parke) and trying to cut it in and he kind of bounced through and I was trying to hold him off when I was getting through and it was a tough ball to strike with him on my back and kind of got a defelction and (went) in."
