Dallas, Tex. - FC Dallas will be without goalkeeper Jeff Cassar for the next six to eight weeks after it was revealed that he had suffered a separation of the AC joint in his right shoulder in the second half of the Hoops 2-2 draw with Chivas USA on Saturday.
Cassar suffered the injury in the 59th minute as he dove to his right to try and make a save off of a close range shot from Chivas defender Ezra Hendrickson. The Dallas 'keeper got to the ball but not before it completely crossed the goal line, giving Chivas a 2-1 advantage. On his dive, Cassar drove his right shoulder into the turf inside of his goal, causing the AC joint separation.
"It's obviously a huge loss to be without your starting keeper, and it looks like he'll probably be out for six weeks minimum," FC Dallas Head Coach Colin Clarke said. "That pretty much takes us to the end of the regular season so we just have to re-evaluate our situation and decide whether or not we need to add someone to the roster."
Cassar, who appeared in and started four games for the Hoops before his injury, will now be replaced in the Dallas goal by 2005 MLS All-Star, Scott Garlick. Garlick was 10-5-4 for FCD through the first four months of the season, as he started each of the club's first 19 games. In that time Garlick made 67 saves and had a 1.32 goals against average while leading FC Dallas to the top spot in the Western Conference.
