FC Dallas forward Abe Thompson to have surgery on cheekbone today

Dallas, Texas - FC Dallas President and General Manager Greg Elliott announced today that forward Abe Thompson will have surgery to repair a fractured Zygomatic Arch (cheekbone). The surgery will be performed today at Baylor Medical Center by Dr. Richard Ha.

Thompson, 23, suffered the injury during a scrimmage at a training session last Wednesday. He is expected to miss the next four to six weeks due to the injury.
The 6-0, 170-pound forward out of the University of Maryland was drafted by FC Dallas in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft in the second round (16th overall). He is the all-time Maryland leader in points (112) and is second in goals (43). The Tucson, Arizona native was a Hermann Trophy semifinalist during both his senior and junior years.
Thompson will not accompany the team to La Manga, Spain as FC Dallas will head overseas on Feb. 26 and will return to Texas on Mar. 11.
Before departing for Spain, the team will play a scrimmage at SMU this Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. against the Mustangs.
