Ecuador to take on Paraguay at Giants Stadium on May 4

SECAUCUS, N.J. - The MetroStars announced today that they will manage a match at Giants Stadium on May 4 that will pit the Ecuadorian National Team against the Paraguayan National Team. Kickoff for the match is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.


"We are thrilled to be a part of this match at Giants Stadium," said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "Ecuador is rapidly becoming one of the best teams in South America, and Paraguay will surely be ready for an intense match. The MetroStars are thrilled to be a part of this great day."


Both Ecuador and Paraguay are currently involved in the final round of qualifying for FIFA World Cup 2006. Currently they rank third and fourth respectively in South America (CONMBOL) qualifying. Currently, Argentina leads the group with 28 points, Brazil is second with 24 points, Ecuador is third with 20 points and Paraguay is fourth with 19 points.

The MetroStars participation in the match is a continued sign of the MetroStars and Continental Airlines commitment to the Tri-State's Ecuadorian Community. In February, Continental Airlines sponsored the MetroStars pre-season tour to Ecuador and will be a partner at the MetroStars Ecuadorian Heritage Day. Continental Airlines begins non-stop service from Newark Liberty International Airport to Guayaquil, Ecuador starting on June 8.


The MetroStars take on the Chicago Fire tonight at Giants Stadium at 8:00 p.m.
