Earthquakes midfielder Dwayne De Rosario to join Canadian national team for CONCACAF Gold Cup

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Dwayne De Rosario has been named to the Canadian National Team's 23-man roster that will participate in the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Scarborough, Ontario native will join his Canadian teammates and Canadian National Team head coach Frank Yallop on June 30, following the Quakes match against the Colorado Rapids on Wed., June 29 at Spartan Stadium.


The Gold Cup runs from July 6 - 24 all around the United States. Canada is in Group B along with the U.S., Cuba and Costa Rica. De Rosario and the Canadians open play on Thursday, July 7 against Costa Rica at Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash. Two days later in Seattle on July 9, Canada faces the United States, before wrapping up group play against Cuba on Tuesday, July 12 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The quarterfinals are scheduled for July 16 and 17 and the semifinals for July 21. The Gold Cup final will be played at Giants Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, July 24 at 3:00 p.m. ET.


De Rosario has made 29 appearances for Canada in his career, most recently in a friendly on March 26 against Portugal. He has scored seven career goals, including four in World Cup qualifying games. He also scored a goal in the Gold Cup Third Place game in 2002 against South Korea.
