The Crew acquire Chris Henderson to complete three-way trade with Colorado and D.C. United

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew General Manager Mark McCullers and Crew Head Coach Greg Andrulis announced today that The Crew has acquired Colorado midfielder Chris Henderson to complete a three-way trade with Colorado and D.C. United.

The Crew sent a partial allocation to D.C. for the rights to Henderson, while D.C. sent defender Mike Petke to Colorado. To clear roster space for Henderson, Columbus waived midfielder Manny Lagos.

"I am excited to be joining Columbus," said Henderson, who will join the team in Los Angeles for Wednesday's game. "One of my former teammates, Robin Fraser, is there and I have a lot of respect for him. I've twice had a chance to play for teams who finished the year with the best record in the league and when you look at what Columbus did last year over the course of the season it was pretty impressive. I just want to come in and continue playing the way I have been playing to start off the year and to be able to provide quality service to our forwards."

Henderson, a two-time MLS All-Star, has appeared in eight games for the Rapids this season and is tied for second in the league in assists, with five. He also has one goal on the year.

The 10-year MLS veteran ranks seventh all-time in league history in assists with 76, while also adding 46 career goals. His 168 points ranks 14th all-time in MLS, just one point behind former Crew star Brian McBride and former D.C. star Marco Etcheverry (169).

The Everett, Washington, native also ranks tied for eighth all-time in game-winning assists (20), and second all-time in games played (264) and games started (254). Henderson also has 29 MLS playoff appearances and has four goals and five assists in those games.

Henderson also has years of U.S. National Team experience, having appeared 79 times for the U.S., with 63 starts. He has three goals and 10 assists for the national team, and was the youngest player, at 19, on the 1990 U.S. World Cup team.
