MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2005 - CHICAGO FIRE 1, COLUMBUS CREW 1

CHICAGO FIRE HEAD COACH DAVE SARACHAN

On the match:
"My kids did well today. I don't know what the collective age of the team was but it was young. I was pleased that when we conceded a goal we got it back. They made a push and Columbus had one thing in mind today and that was to get a point. That made it hard for us. They put a lot of yellow shirts in spots on the field. We couldn't find a whole lot of room. Combine that with pretty oppressive conditions with the heat. We don't want to use that as an excuse. Fact of the matter is that it was tough conditions out there today and at the end of the day, you take this point and you move on. I'm not disappointed."

CHICAGO FIRE MIDFIELDER JUSTIN MAPP

On his game-tying goal:
"It felt good to score that goal. When we got that goal, we needed some sort of spark. I was happy to contribute. I wish we could have won."

On the match:
"It wasn't an easy day to play. It was very hot out there. We just had to stay focused and keep our heads in the game. We did pretty well."

CHICAGO FIRE MIDFIELDER WILL JOHN

On his first start for the Fire this season:
"I think I was decent. It was an average [performance]. There were a few chances early on that I didn't turn around. I just have to play a whole lot better. I was playing conservatively. Hopefully, I can get on people next time and be more myself. Obviously it's up to the coach, but you want to get more starts and keep working. Hopefully they will come."

COLUMBUS CREW INTERIM HEAD COACH ROBERT WARZYCHA

On today's match:
"I think we should have scored a couple more goals, to be honest with you. It wasn't great. We weren't lucky enough today. I'm very happy about our performance. We were very organized and we have something to build on."

COLUMBUS CREW MIDFIELDER ERIC VASQUEZ

On his goal:
"I think it was a good transition between the team. I think the goal was combined by the whole team. We deserve it as a team. It's good to turn things around."

COLUMBUS CREW FORWARD KNOX CAMERON

On the game:
"I thought we played great. We had our game plan and we stuck with it. It's unfortunate because we had some chances and weren't able to convert. Overall it was a great effort."
