Colorado Rapids acquire two draft picks from FC Dallas

DENVER - The Colorado Rapids announced today that the club has acquired a third round pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft and a third round pick in the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft from FC Dallas in exchange for a Youth International spot for the 2006 MLS season.

The Youth International spot was the same one acquired by Colorado in a previous trade with Real Salt Lake; the spot is essentially "on loan" to Dallas and will return to the Rapids after the end of the 2006 MLS season. Per MLS rules, a Youth International is a non-domestic player (i.e., non-U.S. citizen and non-green card holder) who is 24 years old or younger.

"The two draft picks that we acquired today allow us to replace the draft picks we gave up in our last two player moves, so this helps us gain back some key picks in next year's draft selections," said Rapids General Manager Charlie Wright.

With the trade, the Rapids now hold 4 picks in next year's MLS SuperDraft as well as 4 picks in next year's MLS Supplemental Draft.
