Clarke analyzes FC Dallas by position

Colin Clarke

Jeff Cassar and Scott Garlick -- "Both guys have been very sharp. It's going to be one of, if not the hardest decision I'll have to make come opening day. It was the same last year. They both have done a great job this preseason and we'll have to wait and see."
- Clarke.

LEFT BACK (1)
-- Chris Gbandi and David Wagenfuhr -- "We have a good battle going on between these two. David has come along way this year and is both fit and healthy. Chris has risen to the challenge back there and is as good as he has ever been. This will be another tough decision."

CENTER BACK (2) -- Clarence Goodson, Steve Jolley, Drew Moor, Alex Yi -- "This is up for the taking. Clarence came in very mature this year and I can see him being a big part of our plans moving forward. Steve is injured at the minute and we'll see how he is when we get back. He is our experienced defender and I'm sure he will be in there fighting for a spot as well. Drew Moor has done very well here and hasn't put a foot wrong this preseason. I've been very impressed with him. Alex had a good solid preseason and will be there fighting for time as well."

RIGHT BACK (1) -- Drew Moor, Bobby Rhine, Philip Salyer, Carey Talley -- "All four of these guys are in the running for this spot. The good thing is that we have good competition for some spots and some flexibility. We played Bobby back there and thought that it would be a position he would excel at. We have to give him some time to get to know it and learn it and then we'll see how it works out."

MIDFIELD (3) - Richard Mulrooney, Ronnie O'Brien, Oscar Pareja, Aaron Pitchkolan, Eric Quill, Carey Talley, Simo Valakari -- "Ronnie also played here early on, but he is a player that can play anywhere on the field. Carey has done well in there. It's a good solid mix with Carey, Richard and Simo. Aaron Pitchkolan is another young kid who came in and has turned some heads this preseason. He will be great cover here, but as we move forward he could be fighting for a starting spot. With Eric Quill, we have to wait and see on his calf. We should know more next week. Oscar is the ultimate team guy and has been a great support for both our younger and veteran players. He is a true competitor and will be fighting for his minutes there too."

OUTSIDE FORWARD (2) -- Arturo Alvarez, Ty Maurin, Ramon Nuñez, Ronnie O'Brien -- "Again, it's good that we have plenty of options and competition at these positions. We had our hands tied on this trip with the bodies we had with just the one forward to play up top in Bobby Rhine. Ramon and Arturo have done well on the outside. Ronnie has scored two goals and played extremely well when he has moved up there. I believe we'll be adding a few more bodies in the next week or two and then we'll see what our options are at these positions."

CENTER FORWARD (1) - Cornell Glen, Eddie Johnson Bobby Rhine -- "Up top, when he is here, we have Eddie. Unfortunately, Cornell has been injured for the most part of his stay with us in Spain. Like I said before, we will be looking to add a couple more bodies to strengthen our look at the forward position."
