Ching named first-ever Maggiano's Player of the Month

San Jose Earthquakes forward Brian Ching has been selected as the Maggiano's Earthquakes Player Of The Month for the month of April the team announced on Thursday. The team also announced that Brad Davis was awarded the Earthquakes Goal of the Month for his free kick blast against Club Deportivo Chivas USA on April 9.

Ching scored four goals and registered two assists for the Quakes in April, as the U.S. National Team player helped the club to a 1-1-3 record in the month and established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in MLS.

Ching and Davis received their awards at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant in Santana Row in San Jose, where the Quakes will be hosting a monthly media luncheon on the first Tuesday of every month throughout the 2005 season.

Ching, 26, started the season off quickly, scoring his first goal of the year just 13 minutes into the 2005 season on April 2 in a 2-2 tie against the New England Revolution. Ching connected for a goal on another header off a Davis free kick in the Quakes second game, a 3-3 draw with Chivas USA on April 9. Ching then responded with a header for a goal on April 23 in a 3-2 win over Kansas City and scored on April 30 in a 2-2 tie with Real Salt Lake. Ching also registered an assist on April 16 in Chicago and assisted on Dwayne De Rosario's game-winning goal against the Wizards.

Davis won the Earthquakes Goal of the Month for his sensational free kick on April 9, in which he blasted a curving, left-footed shot from the top of the penalty area into the upper left corner of the goal for his first goal as a member of the Earthquakes.

The Earthquakes look to stretch their unbeaten streak to four games when they host FC Dallas on Saturday, May 14 at Spartan Stadium at 7:00 p.m. PT.
