CHELSEA FC 2, D.C. UNITED 1

D.C. UNITED COACH PETER NOWAK

On United's performance:
"If you let them have a chance then they are going to score [and] have results like that. My team did everything right; we pressed the ball, we pushed forward. For 90 minutes we were still with these guys."

On the importance of the game
"They are going to remember this night for a long time. I thank the fans today for showing up and filling the stadium and want to thank them for the support and great atmosphere. This is what it is all about."

On the experience gained:/b>
"We are never going to step back, no matter who we play. This is a step in the right direction, we know what needs to be done in the future and play these types of games. I am proud of these guys. We had 15-16 guys who really pushed for 90 minutes to try and win the game."

On subject of salary differences:
"Money never played football. Money never played a game. People play football. This night showed us we needed to gain the experience, we need to play different guys, and we need to play different styles. We want to keep playing our [tempo]. We need to step and back take in an experience instead of running all around like high school boys and play our [style] of soccer."

D.C. UNITED FULLBACK BOBBY BOSWELL
On taking the lead early:
"It felt good to get on top early. It is unfortunate that we gave them one right back. Going into the second half I liked our chances."

On playing against a premier team:
"They are a good team and they put their chances away. We were just not able to get back into it.

"They were pretty tough, I got pretty banged up tonight, probably more so than all of my MLS games. But it was a fun game, great atmosphere and they are a great team."

D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER FREDDY ADU

On the end result:
"We can take a lot of positive out of this."

On wanting to play for a team of Chelsea's caliber:
"I think I can do it [play for a Premiership club]; I just need to keep my head on straight"

On getting to opportunity to speak with Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho
"I spoke with him before the game and we were just talking. He was congratulating me on the goal I scored last week."
