Burn 3, Revolution 1 -- quote sheet

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, JUNE 12, 2004 - DALLAS BURN 3, NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 1

DALLAS BURN HEAD COACH COLIN CLARKE

"I thought the first half our passing wasn’t good enough, it wasn’t crisp enough and it wasn’t quick enough. It was the first night of the year where it’s been this hot and humid and I think both teams felt it. We got the goal and we didn’t build on it very well. You’d like to be up 2-nil at the half and that didn’t happen. We kept them hanging around and they got back into the game deservedly."

On the performance of goalkeeper Jeff Cassar: "Magnificent performance. He made some great saves and kept us in the game. The one second half down low to his right was just a great save. He battled and the whole team battled. We didn’t play well but we got a result and that’s always nice."

On Eddie Johnson’s game-winner:
"Great goal and a great header. It’s our first one this year off of a corner direct. We’ve had enough of those this year and we’ve talked enough about them. The service has always been good and it came at the right time for us.

On Kreis’ first goal:
"It was great to see Jason get his first goal. He’s worked hard and he was a leader again tonight"

DALLAS BURN GOALKEEPER JEFF CASSAR
On starting for injured goalkeeper Scott Garlick:
"That’s what I train for every week. For that opportunity to get out there and contribute to the team."

On the momentum the team gained from his saves:
"It happened to work out that way and I’m glad. The guys played fantastic. The subs that came in all contributed. Everyone’s contributing to the team’s winning."

On back-to-back wins:
"We feel great about it. We know tonight wasn’t a great game by any means. The first half was pretty horrible and we were a little flat to start the second half. But when we’re firing on all cylinders we’re pretty good."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On the game:
"Their goalkeeper got Man of the Match. That tells the whole story. When you get your chances, you have to put them away. And when you don't do that, anything is liable to happen. Once they got the second goal, then we started chasing them and the whole thing opened up. But at seventy minutes, we should have been ahead in the game. We were glad to play the way we did and to create the chances that we did. To not take them and then lose is hard to swallow. As I said, the goalie gets man of the."

On starting Richie Baker and Andy Dorman:
"I think it's not ideal, but I can't make any complaints the way the team played. Certainly we are not happy we lost the game. We are not happy that we lost three goals."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD FELIX BRILLANT

On the result:
"It's a big loss. Honestly. I don't know what to say. That corner killed us, because we had the momentum going. And that just killed the game. Then after that we were just chasing and chasing. We kept going. But I don't know. It was just tough. The heat didn't help."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION MIDFIELDER ANDY DORMAN

On his first MLS start:
"It was good to get out there. I am obviously disappointed with the result. I thought I did okay. It was tough in there in the first half, especially with the heat. Then the second half, at the end, it took its toll. We did enough to win the game, but obviously it didn't happen."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER JAY HEAPS

On the game:
"It's tough. We fell down early. I thought (the first Dallas goal) was offsides, we weren't sure. But we battled back, we played on. We evened the game, but that's how the game goes. They took care of their chances and that's the difference in that game. Give credit to their goalkeeper, Jeff Cassar. I played with him in Miami and that's the kind of stuff he did in Miami. He makes great saves and he is a great goalkeeper to have."

On how New England did playing without several regular starters:
"I think you saw in the first half, there were little things, a little difference in how we connected on passes. But then in the second half, to be honest with you, I think up top where we played two new guys, Felix (Brillant) and Clint (Dempsey) did unbelievable up there. They did a great job. I think, to their credit, those guys gave them some trouble up there. Everyone played well. Andy Dorman, any one that was substituted, I thought did well. It's just a matter of us keeping it out of their net and putting it into our net."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER CLINT DEMPSEY

On the game:
"That's the way it goes sometimes and that's the way it has been going this season. You have to take your hats off to the guys that worked hard. A lot of the new guys were forced to step it up and I think they did that tonight. We had a lot of good chances and their keeper came up big. Hats off to him. It's just the way this season has been going. We have been fighting hard and just not coming up with the result. Sooner or later, it's going to pay off. Our guys are going to keep fighting. I don't think we are going to give up. I'm not worried."

On his goal:
"It feels good to score any time, especially in front of my family. It felt great. But at the same time, it's bitter sweet. I would much rather win the game and not score at all."
