Twellman's missed a clear header before striking another shot off the post in the dying minutes.

San Jose had the first two chances to open the scoring. Brian Mullan saw his short-range bid saved by goalkeeper Matt Reis
five minutes in, while Brown's header from the center of the penalty area following a Richard Mulrooney cross flashed just
wide of the mark.
Steve Ralston returned to his right fullback position for New England but still managed to cause headaches for San Jose's
backline. On the half-hour mark, the veteran shook his mark and sent in a cross to the far post that Twellman headed just
above the crossbar.
Ten minutes later, Pat Noonan connected with another Ralston cross but his header also missed its intended target, passing
just inches wide of the post.
San Jose finally broke the deadlock three minutes after halftime. Gaining possession of a loose ball on the right flank,
Russell sent in a quick center to the far post, whence Brown headed home unchallenged for his second goal of the season.
The hosts controlled the rest of the match, but were unable to solve the Quakes' defense and netminder Jon Conway. San
Jose's second-string 'keeper made the save of the night in the 69th, blocking a close-range Brian Kamler shot with his legs
after falling across the goal line.
Twellman had another chance to pull even with nine minutes remaining, but his redirection of a Richie Baker pass struck
Conway's left post, and a relieved San Jose side returned home with the three points.
San Jose is back in action on Wednesday, hosting Columbus (10:30 p.m. ET) at Spartan Stadium. The Revolution will try to
turn their luck around on Saturday, Sept. 11, against the MetroStars (6 p.m. ET, HDNet) at Giants Stadium.
