Agoos to take part in charity auctions

MetroStars defender Jeff Agoos is teaming up with last year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Jonathan Vilma of the New York Jets, standout kicker Jay Feely of the New York Giants and New York Knicks legend John Starks to take part in a Celebrity Sports Auction that benefits the Starlight-Starbright Children's Foundation.

Everyone wins at the 16th Annual Starlight Starbright Celebrity Sports Auction, hosted by the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation's New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Chapter, an event that will benefit the thousands of children who suffer from a wide range of critical, chronic and life-threatening diseases each day.

On Nov. 1 the festivities will include celebrity athletes, a silent and live auction, an open bar, delicious food and a special awards presentation at Madison Square Garden from 6-9:30 p.m. ET. All proceeds generated at the event will be used to fund the children's programs and services that the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation provides.

This exceptional event will feature an awards presentation highlighting the careers and contributions of exemplary athletes both on and off the field. WABC-TV's Scott Clark will be hosting.

For the very special silent auction, many unique sports items are up for grabs: a Derek Jeter signed baseball, a game-worn Mike Piazza jersey, an authentic Catfish Hunter autographed framed photo, a basketball signed by Yao Ming, a pair of tickets to a 2006 New Jersey Nets home game, a Joe Namath signed football and jersey and a pair of Rangers tickets are just some of the distinctive prizes.

Sure to draw the highest bids are prizes that are even more lavish, including the use of the Ticketmaster sky box for the Rangers vs. Washington Capitals on Nov. 26 for 14 people, various round-trip flights to Europe, the Caribbean and the contiguous 48 states, a one-week stay for two at the Park Hyatt in Los Angeles and more. Also up for bid are once in a lifetime opportunities, such as having your name as a character in an upcoming James Patterson novel and owning an original letter written and signed by Joan Crawford from 1949. Opportunities to sponsor a Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation child and their family to attend the event are also available.

Tickets for this event are $125. For more information about the event or to purchase tickets, please call 212-354-2878 or go to www.starlight-newyork.org.

Corporate sponsors of the event include North Fork Bank (title sponsor); American Airlines, the official airline of the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, Con Edison, The New York Mets, Bryant Park Grill, Cougar Trading, New York Daily News, The Feil Family Foundation, MetroStars, Q104.3/WAXO-FM, Sports Radio 66 WFAN, Ticketmaster, and Stelco Restoration and Technology.

The 16th Annual Starlight Starbright Celebrity Sports Auction will support the mission of the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, which is making a world of difference for seriously ill children and their families. Each year, Starlight serves over 250,000 critically, chronically, and terminally ill children throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Some of Starlight's most unique programs include Great Escapes, special outings of the child's choice, STARBRIGHT World, a private online community especially for those living with chronic diseases to come together, Hospital Happenings, including themed parties, toys, and visits from entertainers, and Wish Granting- making wishes come true.

In addition to granting wishes for sick children, Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation provides programs on hospital pediatric wards, funds special projects for hospitalized children, and conducts a variety of outpatient activities. Since 1985, the NYNJCT chapter has been offering hope and a brighter future for seriously ill children. The goal of the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation is to help these children experience the simple joys of being a child.
