Adu named to U.S. U-20 team

CHANTILLY, VA (April 14, 2004) -D.C. United forward Freddy Adu was named today by U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team Coach Thomas Rongen to the 24-man roster that will face Haiti at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 21st at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The match will be part of the U-20’s third domestic training camp of the year, which will begin April 18th.

During both of United’s first two games, Adu has come off the bench and shown a glimpse of his potential with a soft touch on the ball, pin-point passing and the ability to create chances around the goal. Adu is also the only returning player from the 2003 U-20 World Youth Championships team that took fifth place this past December in the United Arab Emirates.

This weekend, Adu will face 17-year-old MetroStars midfielder and U.S. Under-20 teammate Eddie Gaven at Giants Stadium in the Saturday, April 17th match to be broadcast on espn2 at 5:00 p.m.EDT.

During the camp, the U.S. will also face CONCAF rival Jamaica in closed-door exhibitions in Sunrise, FL on Tuesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 22. The times of both matches have yet to be determined.
