Career Summary

Salvadoran international Julio Martinez joins the Chicago Fire on loan from Club León of Mexico for the 2010 season. A native of Coatepeque, El Salvador, Martinez started his career at the age of 17 playing for home-based Once Lobos in 2003, spending one season with the club before transferring to Isidro Metapán. From 2003 to 2009, Martinez helped Metapán to three championships (Clausura 2007 and 2009, and Apertura 2008) and qualification to the 2008/2009 CONCACAF Champions League.

In 2009, Martinez was acquired by Alianza F.C., where he stayed for a short period before signing with Mexican side León. In Mexico, he played seven games with the team, scoring three goals and contributing actively in the midfield. A fleet-footed winger with a knack for shooting from distance, the Salvadoran international will look to establish himself on the right-side of the Fire attack in 2010.

International
Martinez has appeared 10 times for El Salvador since his first appearance in 2006. Playing four matches for his country during 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifying, the winger tallied both of his international goals in 2009 qualifying matches against Mexico, scoring the first goal in El Salvador’s 2-1 upset of el Tri on June 6, 2009.
