Option declined following 2016 season.
There’s little question about what lured MLS to Andy Thoma’s skill set out of college. At the University of Washington, Thoma played as a barnstorming left wingback in a three-man defense, acting as a surrogate midfielder to essentially push another attacker into the final third. That kind of wherewithal from a left back is rare, making Thoma’s ability a prized commodity in a league continually looking for quality left backs. If he can continue to improve his man marking, watch out.
COLLEGE: Thoma was a mainstay for Washington during a glittering four-year career. Largely as a left back, Thoma made 80 appearances for the Huskies and was an integral part of the 2013 team that won the Pac-12 with one of the stingiest defenses in the country.
