Career Summary

Out of contract on June 15, 2017.

An experienced and hard-working wide midfielder, Fernandez will provide the Sounders quality minutes on either side of the field as a starter or a sub. "Flaco," as he is known in Seattle, is in his second stint with Seattle after playing for the club from 2010-2012. He added critical depth in the Sounders' MLS Cup 2016 run, appearing in three of six postseason matches.

INTERNATIONAL: Fernandez has made 12 appearances for the Uruguayan national team since 2009. Most notably, Fernandez was a member of the Uruguayan side that earned a fourth-place finish at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, alongside Sounders FC teammate Nico Lodeiro.

OUTSIDE MLS: A well-traveled professional, Fernandez featured for six clubs before first joining Seattle: Uruguay-Montevideo (2005-2006), Atenas (Uruguay, 2006-2007), Montevideo Wanderers (Uruguay, 2007-08), Puebla (Mexico, 2008), Nacional (Uruguay, 2008-09), Vitoria Setubal (Portugal, 2009-10) and Universidad de Chile (Chile; on loan from Nacional, 2010).

The Sounders signed him as a Designated Player in July 2010 and two years later they traded him to the Chicago Fire, who in turn loaned him to three overseas clubs from 2013-2016: Al-Rayyan (Qatar), Nacional (Uruguay) and Gimnasia (Argentina).
